Chief Minister's significant decision to enhance the Ease of Living in the cities of the State

Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel has given in-principle approval for the allocation of Rs. 10.77 crore for 109 projects in 6 municipal areas under the Private Society Public Participation Scheme (Khangi Society Janbhagidari Yojana)

Under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhya Mantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana, the Gujarat government has approved Rs. 3692.42 crore for 42,726 works in municipal corporations and municipalities across the state


Gandhinagar, 17 January 2024: Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel has granted in-principle approval for the allocation of Rs. 10.77 crore under the Private Society Public Participation Scheme for 6 cities, aiming to enhance the Ease of Living for urban citizens. The Swarnim Jayanti Mukhya Mantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana (SJMMSVY) was launched by the then Chief Minister and current Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in 2010 to provide planned and comprehensive development and public amenities for the cities and metropolises of Gujarat.

The Private Society Public Participation Scheme (Khangi Society Jan Bhagidari Yojana) has been in operation since 2012 as a part of the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhya Mantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana (SJMMSVY).

Under the Private Society Public Participation Scheme (Khangi Society Jan Bhagidari Yojana), municipalities and municipal corporations can undertake various works in private societies, including roads, pavements, water lines, sewer lines, street lights, rainwater harvesting, and laying pavement blocks in common plots within societies. The projects under this scheme are executed with a grant allocation of 70% from the state government, a 20% contribution from the respective private society, and a 10% contribution from local institutions.

Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel has allocated Rs. 3.17 crores to the Kalol Municipal Corporation of the state for 64 works under the Private Society Public Participation Scheme (Khangi Society Jan Bhagidari Yojana. The Surendranagar-Dudhrej Municipality has also received Rs. 6.65 crores for 20 works, including Rs. 61.95 lakhs for 11 projects in Patan. Additionally, Viramgam has been granted Rs. 21.64 lakhs for two works, and Jasdan has received Rs. 11.09 lakhs. In total, in principle approvals have been granted for 109 works, amounting to Rs. 10.77 crores. The Urban Development Department of the state government has sanctioned Rs. 3692.42 crore for a total of 42,726 projects through the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhya Mantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana (SJMMSVY) and under the Private Society Public Participation Scheme (Khangi Society Jan Bhagidari Yojana. 

With the Chief Minister's approval for more than 109 projects in 6 municipalities, a substantial amount of Rs. 10.77 crore will be allocated for the improvement of public welfare initiatives in these societies. Moreover, the state government provides 70% of the estimated cost of work under this scheme to municipalities and municipal corporations in their respective areas. A subsidy limit of Rs. 25,000 per beneficiary family has been established in this regard. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, the Urban Development Department has also abolished this subsidy limit since June 2023.
