68 lakh BPL families to get free food grains from 17th May,2020

    Chief Minister of the state Mr. Vijay Rupani has been sensitive towards the poor and the deprived amidst the lockdown. In order to ensure their welfare, the state government has been distributing additional food grains since April. Taking it forward, around 68.80 BPL families will get free food grains for the second consecutive time for the month of May.

    Providing details of the same, Secretary to CM, Mr.Ashwani Kumar said, “ 66 lakh NFSA card holding families and 3.8 lakh non-NFSA (AAY and PHH) families i.e a total of 3 crore 36 lakh card holders will avail free of cost wheat, rice, pulses, sugar and salt for the month of May. In addition to that, these families will also receive 3.5 kg wheat,1.5 kg rice per person under Pradhan Mantri Garib Anna Kalyan Yojana.”

    The food grain distribution will be operational from  17th May to 27th May, 2020 in all parts of Gujarat except Ahmedabad keeping in mind the necessary safety protocols. The card holders have been divided based on the last digit of their ration cards. Card holders with the last digit as 1 will avail the grains on 17th May, 2020, with last digit as 2 on 18th May, 2020, with last digit as  3 on 19th May,2020, with last digit as 4 on 20th May ,2020, with last digit as 5 21st  May,2020,  with last digit as 6 on 22nd May, 2020, with the last digit as 7 on 23rd May, 2020, with the last digit as 8 on 24th May, 2020, with the last digit as 9 on 25th May, 2020 and with the last digit as 0 on 26th May, 2020.

    The government has also decided to continue the distribution on 27thMay , 2020 for all those beneficiaries who are unable to avail the grains as per the aforesaid slots due to unavoidable circumstances.

    The NFSA card holding families and Antyodaya Families will avail a total of 24 lakh quintals of wheat, 10 lakh quintals of rice, 90 thousand quintals of sugar, 77 thousand quintals of salt and 68 thousand quintals of grams with the co-operation of the state and the central government. The state government has successfully completed the free food grain distribution for 61 lakh APL-1 card holders across Gujarat. The dates for  Ahmedabad  were not announced that time due to the COVID-19 situation. However, free food grain distribution for APL-1 card holders in Ahmedabad will begin from 18thMay,2020 to 23rd May, 2020. The card holders will avail 10 kg wheat, 3 kg rice, 1 kg sugar, and 1 kg grams per family keeping in mind the necessary safety protocols. The card holders in Ahmedabad will also be divided on the basis o the last digit of their ration card. i.e Card holders with the last digit as 1 and 2 will avail the grains on 18th May, 2020, with the last digit as 3 and 4 on 19th May, 2020, with last digit as 5 and 6 on 20th, with last digit as 7 and 8 on 21st May, with last digit as 9 and 0 on 22nd May, 2020. Those unable to avail the grains on the designated dates can avail on 23rdMay, 2020.

    43.60 lakh quintals of food grains worth ₹ 1039 crores have been distributed to such families during April, 2020.
