A high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel approves the planning of new attractions to make the fair popular
New attractions of Madhavpur-Fhed Melo-2023:
Madhavpur Ghed Mela, a festival of fusion of the rich culture of North-Eastern regions of India and Gujarat, Western India, will be held this year from Ram Navami, 30th March to 3rd April.
A high-level meeting for planning of this fair was held in Gandhinagar under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel. This fair is organized by the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Development of North-Eastern States, Government of India, Department of Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities, Department of Tourism and Department of Cottage Industries, Government of Gujarat.
This fair, realizing Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s idea of ‘Ek Bharat-Shreshta Bharat’, is being celebrated as a national level festival since 2018.
This fair is held in memory of Lord Krishna’s marriage in Madhavpur with Rukmani, daughter of King Bhishmak of Bhishmak Nagar, Arunachal Pradesh.
Thousands of devotees faithfully join this fair every year to witness this joyous and sacred wedding ceremony from ‘Barat’ to ‘Bidai’.
This fair started in the year 2018 with the inspiration of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. This Madhavpur-Ghed Mela of 2018 was inaugurated by the former President Shri Ramnath Kovind.
A high-level meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel and in the presence of Tourism Minister Shri Mulubhai Bera was heled to add more attractions to fulfil the spirit of “Unity in Diversity’ at the Madhavpur Mela- 2023.
9 states including Gujarat, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Tripura and Nagaland are going to participate in this fair.
President of India Smt. Draupadi Murmuji will be invited by Chief Minister to inaugurate this fair. To add, the Chief Ministers, Governors and Ministers from Central Government of the participating states are also invited to attend the fair.
Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel gave his inputs to make it popular and attractive.
In this context, it was decided in the meeting that this year’s fair will be held with three broad themes namely integration of Gujarat and North-Eastern states through cultural presentation, integration through handicrafts fair and integration through sports.
Artists and art institutions from Gujarat and North-Eastern states will put on a cultural presentation focusing on traditional dances with historical relevance. Not only this, multimedia show will also be done on Lord Shri Krishna.
Regional handicraft fairs will be held at Vadodara, Ahmedabad and Rajkot from March 18 to March 30 to promote the “Vocal for Local” initiative to popularize handicrafts of North-eastern states, cuisine, organic food of their regions in Gujarat. For this purpose, the Kutir Udyog (State Cottage Industries) Department has been entrusted with the responsibility of planning the work.
Traditional games of North-eastern states and Gujarat and coastal games – beach sports will be organized for the first time at the Madhavpur-Ghed beach this year. Games like beach volleyball, beach football, 100 meters beach run, beach handball and coconut throw will be played.
It is also planned to create various works of sand sculpture on the coast, students from North-Eastern states are also to participate in this fair under the student exchange program.
The mythological incident of Lord Krishna marrying Rukmani and reaching Dwarika with a procession will be re-enacted at this year’s fair. Program of welcoming Rukmani at Dwarika will be held for the first time.
Not only this, all Krishna temples in the state will be decorated during the days of the fair. Arrangements will also be made for live telecasting of the Madhavpur Mela in the respective states so that people from Gujarat and North-East states can enjoy it.
Chief Secretary Shri Raj Kumar, Chief Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Shri Kailashnathan, Additional Chief Secretary Shri Pankaj Joshi, as well as Principal Secretaries and senior officials of departments including Education, Tourism, Cultural Activities participated in this meeting.
