Gandhinagar, Thursday: Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel has made an important announcement that every municipality in the state will make a town planning scheme at the Conclave of City Leaders organized by the Department of Urban Development and Urban Housing at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar. In this context, he said that the state government has taken this decision so that the small and big municipalities of the state can organize additional money for the development of their own towns and carry out the works of urban well-being and public amenities.
In this conclave of presidents, standing committee chairmen and chief officers of the state’s B, C, D category municipalities, the work done and best practices in the field of sanitation, water-electricity-sewerage and solid waste management and affordable housing in the city were discussed and exchanged.
The Chief Minister while giving inspiring guidance in this conclave clearly stated that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has won people’s trust with the politics of development. He called upon the local self-governing institutions like municipalities to promote the trust and confidence further by speeding up the development works. The Chief Minister explained the work carried out under the cleanliness campaign and Amrit Mission in the municipalities and added that now cleanliness has become an instinct of everyone. With the foresight of the honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, cleanliness has now become a public movement, while the municipalities also keep the cities clean through solid waste management, tidiness and cleanliness.
Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel also said that the state government is with the municipalities in developing sound financial management and new arrangements so that the development works of the municipalities do not stop due to lack of funds. He also advocated in this conclave for quick resolution of day-to-day issues in towns with the municipality and state government.
Shri Mukesh Kumar, Principal Secretary, Department of Urban Development and Urban Rural Housing, delivered the welcome address and outlined the program. Shri Rakesh Shankar, Secretary of Urban Development and Urban Rural Housing Department, gave an overview of the work done under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) during the year 2022-23 and said that during the year 2022-23, the work of 1.57 lakh houses has been completed. The Secretary also added that 7 awards have been given to Gujarat by the Central Government under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) Award in the year-2022-23.
Secretary Shri Rakesh Shankar gave more information regarding affordable housing and solid waste management. Commissioner of Municipal Administration Shri Rajkumar Beniwal made a presentation showing the analysis of the current situation regarding water supply and sewerage system in ‘B’, ‘C’ and ‘D’ category municipalities of the state and provided necessary guidance.
In this seminar, the regional municipal commissioners presented the developmental activities like plastic recycling, waste plastic management, waste to energy, electricity saving, waste water management and sports complex in various municipalities and the opportunities and challenges available before the municipalities. Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) Director Shri S. K. Prajapati gave a vote of thanks.
