Gandhinagar, Sunday:  Union Home Minister and Cooperation Shri Amit Shah inaugurated the 6th ‘All India Prison Duty Meet-2022’ held in Gujarat from Transstadia, Ahmedabad. While Jail administration is an important part of maintaining social order, it is equally necessary to reform the prisons and thereby rehabilitate the prisoners. The present central government has given priority to prison reforms.

In this three-day 6th ‘All India Prison Duty Meet- 2022’, 1031 prison officers-employees from 19 states and union territories are participating in 18 different competitions.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has implemented the Model Jail Manual in the year 2016 instead of the earlier Jail Manual. However, 11 states and union territories of the country have adopted it. If all the states of the country adopt this model prison manual, the rehabilitation of prisoners can be effectively implemented with this manual including corrective matters.

The central government will bring the model act in the next 6 months and as a result, modern facilities will be available in all the jails of the country. It is the need of the hour that every state and district court should have video conferencing facility for disposal of cases. Also, narcotics and hardened criminal minded prisoners should be segregated. We are moving forward with a scientific approach to prison control when overcrowding in prisons is not justified.

The Bureau of Police Research and Development Unit is an important unit for the internal and external security of the country while the meet held by this unit will be a means of developing positive competition and sportsmanship among the officers and employees of the prisons.

“Not every prisoner is criminal by born, but is serving time in prison because of a crime committed under circumstances”. Dealing with good faith with them is equally important.

While the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given the mantra of Fit India, the jail administration is also determined to realize the mantra of Fit India by holding such a meet.

Shri. Amit Shah invited the prison officers-employees of various states who are guests of Gujarat to visit the Statue of Unity and Somnath-Dwarka. The Gujarat government will arrange a meeting for all the people who participated in this meet. At the same time, he congratulated the Chief Minister, calling the entire planning commendable.

Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel said that under the guidance of Union Home Minister Shri Amit Bhai Shah, it is a matter of pride for Gujarat that the sixth All India Prison Duty Meet is being held in Gujarat under the joint initiative of the Prison Department of the Gujarat State Police Force and the Bureau of Police Research and Development of the Government of India.

A new era of good governance has started under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. As a result of this, the country is filling the gap of development and experiencing good governance for the last 8 years.

With the mantra of Sauno Sath, Sauno Vikas, Sauno Vishvas, Sauno Prayas” Shri Narendra Modi has developed a work culture of all-round development in Gujarat and the country.

The Chief Minister further said that the Union Home Minister has taken a major initiative for the reformation of prisons through amicable and peaceful atmosphere between the prisoners in the jail and the staff-officers supervising them. Not only this, Shri. Amit Shah has set a new standard for prison administration in the country by training prisoners and innovative use of technology through various institutions, he added.

On this occasion, 50 prison training manuals and prison coffeetable books were released by Shri. Amit Shah.

Head of Bureau of Police Research and Development Shri. Balaji Srivastava welcomed all the guests and dignitaries. Additional Director General of Police, Gujarat State Prisons and Correctional Administration Shri. K. L. N. Rao delivered the vote of thanks.
