British High Commissioner impressed with the achievements of Gujarat’s financial management, education sector, and infrastructure development

British Commissioner also extends his invitation to Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel to visit the UK
Gandhinagar, 04 August 2023: British High Commissioner to India Mr. Alex Ellis paid a courtesy visit to Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar.
During this meeting, British High Commissioner showed a keen interest to know about Gujarat’s achievements in financial management, education, higher education, and infrastructure development.
In this regard, the Chief Minister said that Gujarat’s current budget is 23% larger than the previous budget and it is also the largest budget to date. Moreover, the capital expenditure has also increased by 92% to accelerate the growth rate.
The state has become the first choice for businessmen in India and abroad due to its robust infrastructure facilities.
The Chief Minister also briefed about the concept of smart schools in the education sector which has added new dimensions to school education, especially in tribal areas.
In this meeting, the Chief Minister also discussed Vidya Samiksha Kendra which is set up for online assessment of children’s attendance. He also talked about collaboration with foreign universities for higher education. The University of Edinburgh has partnered with Gujarat Biotechnology University.
British High Commissioner Mr. Alex Ellis, who hails from a family associated with the education sector, was impressed by the initiatives of Gujarat in the education sector.
Chief Minister detailed the British High Commissioner about Gujarat’s leadership in the green growth, renewable energy, and hybrid energy sector.
The CM briefed about Hon’ble PM’s initiatives in Gujarat like the establishment of a separate department of Climate Change and a solar park in Charanka to maximize the use of solar energy, during his tenure as the CM.
Gujarat is all set to contribute towards the Prime Minister’s aim of maximizing the use of green energy and a clean and green environment by 2030.
Discussions were also held on how can Gujarat benefit from the expertise of Britain for the Olympic Village and sports infrastructure considering they have vast experience in organizing these events. Their guidance can be useful to Gujarat in organizing Olympic Games in the near future.
In this meeting, British High Commissioner showed keen interest in knowing about Gujarat’s culture, tradition, water management, and GIFT City.
The Chief Minister extended his invitation to the UK delegation to participate in the forthcoming 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit-2024 in January 2024.
The British High Commissioner also extended a warm invitation to Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel to visit the UK.
Chief Principal Secretary to CM Shri K. Kailashnathan, Additional Chief Secretary for Industries Shri S.J. Haider, and Industries Commissioner Shri Sandip Sagale were present during the meeting.
