    Gandhinagar, Tuesday: Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel conducted a successful discourse with Mr. Enoch Godongwana, Minister of Finance, South Africa, and his delegation.

    The Finance Minister and his delegation are in Gujarat to participate in the Third Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) under India’s G20 Presidency, which is being organized in Gujarat owing to the efforts of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

    In his meeting with Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, Mr. Enoch Godongwana expressed that he was pleasantly impressed by the planning and organization of G20. He also highlighted the potential for collaboration between Gujarat and South Africa in various areas of development.

    South Africa’s Finance Minister, Mr. Enoch Godongwana, expressed his keen interest in the incentives provided to industrial investors in Gujarat. He highlighted the strong cultural and commercial ties between Gujarat and South Africa, acknowledging the contributions of Gujarati families to South Africa’s industry.

    Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel emphasized the deep-rooted relations between Gujarat and South Africa, noting that Mahatma Gandhiji had initiated the Satyagraha movement in South Africa, underscoring their shared history.

    In this context, he urged the Finance Minister of South Africa to visit Sabarmati Ashram and Dandi Kutir.

    The Chief Minister highlighted, “Gujarat is a policy-driven state. The policy framework with Ease of Doing Business has made it a global investment hub.” “Projects like GIFT City and Dholera SIR are Gujarat’s forte,” he added.

    With this in mind, he invited South African fintech start-ups and other companies to set up operations in GIFT City.

    The Hon’ble Chief Minister discussed the prospects of cooperation between Gujarat and South Africa on Renewable Energy, Gems and Jewellery, Agro-Food Processing, Education, Tourism, and Medical Value Tourism (MVT).

    Taking note of the numerous students from South Africa and other African nations that study in Gujarat, the Chief Minister advocated for mutual cooperation in the start-up sector through Start-up Exchange Programs.

    Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel invited the South African Finance Minister to participate in the Vibrant Summit in January 2024.

    The Chief Minister also gave details that South Africa was a partner country of the Vibrant Summit- 2015 and 2019 and a special event – Africa Day is organized in this Vibrant Summit.

    The Finance Minister of South Africa, Mr. Enoch Godongwana accepted the invitation and expressed eagerness to join the Vibrant Summit, 2024.

    Chief Secretary Shri Raj Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary to Chief Minister Shri Pankaj Joshi, Additional Chief Secretary of Industries Shri S.J Haider, and Principal Secretary Smt. Mona Khandhar joined the meeting.
