Ahmedabad, August 28, 2017: Chief Minister Vijay Rupani handed over tablets worth Rs.7,000 at a token price of Rs.1,000 to select 53 fresher in colleges at a function on the Saurashtra University campus at Rajkot today.

Speaking on the occasion, he said this is part of Lenevo e-tablets being handed over to 15,000 college students in the Rajkot region at their respective university departments. This scheme is scheduled to cover 3-lakh college students in the entire state this academic year.  The government will plough back Rs.30-crore thus earned to provide free Wi-Fi in all colleges and universities.

Mr. Rupani said that his government is concerned about the future of the youth, comprising the largest segment of the population. The government has set up 46 new universities and innumerous colleges in the last 15 years. Nearly 84 per cent of new jobs created in India were in Gujarat alone.

He also said that the non-teaching staff of the university would get Seventh Pay Commission pay scales.

Mr. Rupani unveiled through remote control the Boys and Girls Hostels, Overhead and Underground Water Tanks and Rooftop Solar Panel. He was felicitated by the heads of various departments, senate members and teaching staff with cotton yank, mementoes and shawl, etc.

Saurashtra University Vice-Chancellor Pratapsinh Chauhan gave details of the tablet distribution logistic. He presented Rs.11-lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

Principal Secretary Education Anju screened a documentary on the topic. A student of Kansagar College Ageja Vaishali explained the features of the tablet.

Those present on the occasion included Mayor Jaimanbhai Upadhyay, MP Mohanbhai Kundariya, MLAs Govindbhai Patel, Bhanuben Babariya and Bavanjibhai Mataliya, Municipal Finance Board Chairman Dhansukhbhai Bhanderi, Technical Education Director K.K. Nirala, RK University Chairman Khodidasbhai Patel, Marwadi University Chairman Ketanbhai Marwadi, Municipal Commissioner Vanchhanidhi Pani, Collector Vikrant Pandey and Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot, among others.
