Gandhinagar, Tuesday: Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel said that, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has shown his commitment towards the health and well-being of the weaker sections of the society the marginalized and the needy through the new tradition of holistic healthcare.
In this context the Chief Minister said that, Poor people or middle-class families get a healthcare scheme of up to five lakh rupees under Ayushman Bharat.
Not only that, cheap and good medicines are now easily available through the Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Kendra. The Chief Minister was addressing a function held in Gandhinagar on the occasion of Jan Aushadhi Diwas. Dignitaries including Union Minister Shri Parshottam Rupala, Health Minister Shri Rushikesh Patel and Mayor of Gandhinagar Shri Hitesh Makwana were present on this occasion.
Chief Minister said, Today, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi every welfare scheme or public welfare program including health facilities is planned keeping the poor section of the society at the centre. He said further said that Shri Narendra Modi has adopted the approach of 100 percent beneficiary coverage i.e. saturation level of schemes to bring such small, marginalized and poor people into the mainstream of development. The sole aim is to make sure that each and every beneficiary gets the benefit for which he is eligible for.
Shri Bhupendra Patel added that, There was a situation where some poor, middle-class families would have to go through painful period in order to avoid the cost of expensive medicines due to serious illness.
By starting Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Kendras across the country, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has made cheap, good and quality medicines available to lakhs of such families at 50 to 90 percent cheaper than the market price.
The Chief Minister also said that the policy of inclusive development and welfare given by the Prime Minister has been the basis of the state’s development journey.
The Chief Minister also gave the role that the state government has doubled the annual limit of insurance per family under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, i.e. from five lakh to 10 lakh rupees this year. He added,
Excellent health treatment facilities have been made accessible to remote areas in the state through health centers and Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Kendras.
The Chief Minister also expressed the hope that this same commitment of public health protection will be implemented in Gujarat under the direction of the Prime Minister which in a way will realize the goal of “Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah, Sarve Santu Niramaya”
On this occasion, Union Animal Husbandry Minister Shri Parshottam Rupala said that, People have a misconception that such drugs are not effective but generic drugs are being used not only in India but also in countries like America and Europe. The demand for export of generic drugs has also increased significantly in as many as 51 countries.
He added that under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, many progressive events are happening in India today which have not happened in any corner of the world. One such experiment is the “Prime Minister’s Bharatiya Janaushadhi Project”.
He also requested for widespread promotion of the use of generic medicines among the people under the theme of this year’s Jan Aushadhi Day celebration, ‘Cheap but good.’
On this occasion Gujarat Minister of Health Shri Rushikesh Patel said that a strong structure of Jan aushadhi Kendras has been established in the country under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi so that the poor and middle class families of the country can easily get quality medicines at cheaper rates. He added,
As of 2014, there were only 99 Janaushadhi centres across the country, while at present there are more than 9000 centers operating across the country.
As many as 518 Jan Aushadhi Kendras are functioning in Gujarat alone, 1750 WHO certified medicines and 280 surgical materials are available from these centres.
The Health Minister further said, Quality medicines available at Janaushadhi Kendras are available at 50 to 90 percent cheaper price than the branded medicines available in the market. In the span of last 8 years, the availability of quality medicines at affordable prices has reduced the cost of medicine for the poor and middle class families of the country.
He requested everyone to fulfill the resolution of making self-reliant India from self-reliant Gujarat by making people aware around them about generic medicines.
On this occasion of Jan Aushadhi Diwas Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel honoured Jan Aushadhi Centre administrators with Jan Aushadhi Sharvashrestha award – Jan Aushadhi Jyoti award – Aushadhi Mitra Award.
Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department of the State Shri Manoj Agarwal, gave a welcome address and also gave detailed information about the Janaushadhi project and GMSCL(Gujarat Medical Services Corporation Ltd) Director Shri Ajay Prakash delivered vote of thanks.
Apart from this, the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) and Janaushadhi Centre Director presented their responses.
Health Commissioner Smt Shahmeena Husain, Mission Director,National Health Mission Smt Remya Mohan along with various office bearers, high officials and a large number of beneficiaries of PMBJP scheme were present on this occasion.
