Chief Minister inaugurates the Curtain Raiser for Khel Mahakumbh 2.0

    Chief Minister launches registration portal of Khel Mahakumbh 2.0

    Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel:

    • Khel Mahakumbh was initiated with the noble idea of ‘Khele Te Khile’ with the inspiration of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The seeds sown then have blossomed into a banyan tree today.
    • Gujarat is preparing to host the 2036 Olympic Games.

    Minister Shri Harsh Sanghavi:

    • Winners of different games will get a total prize money of Rs 45 crore.
    • It is a matter of pride that 16 lakh youth registered when the Khel Mahakumbh started, while 55 lakh registered last year.


    Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the Curtain Raiser event for registration of Khel Mahakumbh 2.0 in Ahmedabad. Shri Harsh Sanghavi, Minister of Sports and Culture, was also present on the occasion.

    The CM also inaugurated the registration link and toll-free number for the sports festival.

    Youngsters who wish to participate in Khel Mahakumbh 2.0 will be able to make online registrations and get more details at https://khelmahakumbh.Gujarat.gov.in. In addition, 1800 274 6151 toll-free number has also been made functional.

    Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel said that the seeds of Khel Mahakumbh, which started with the noble idea of ‘Khele Te Khile’ with the inspiration of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has matured into a banyan tree today.

    The Chief Minister said that the state government is committed to providing all kinds of help to the athletes.

    The Chief Minister said that in earlier times, the state was not visible in the field of sports, but due to the successful events such as Khel Mahakumbh, now the youth of the state are shining in the country and abroad. Today, Gujarat is moving forward in every field.

    He further informed that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone of a stadium in Varanasi today, which can accommodate around 30,000 people.

    He added that it is a matter of pride for all of us that the State Government has organized the 36th National Games in a very short span of 3 months.

    Minister for Sports, Youth and Culture Shri Harsh Sanghavi said that for the bright future of sportspersons and for the youth to bring laurels to Gujarat and the country, a total prize of Rs. 45 crore will be given to winners of various sports in the Khel Mahakumbh, under the inspiration and guidance of the Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel.

    Shri Harsh Sanghvi said that in terms of how the state government can encourage the youth as much as possible, under the guidance of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, changes have been brought into the Khel Mahakumbh this time.

    Describing the success of Khel Mahakumbh, Shri Harsh Sanghvi said that it is a matter of immense pride that when this sporting event was started in 2010, 16 lakh youth registered, while 55 lakh youth registered during the last year.

    Talking about the changes made in the Khel Mahakumbh this time, Shri Harsh Sanghvi said that in addition to 35 games, 4 new sports like Woodball, Sepak Collision, Beach Volleyball, and Beach Handball have been added. Hence, a total of 39 sports will be organized at this event.

    Apart from this, the under-9 age group has been included.
    He further said that in the interest of the youth, the state government has decided that any player can participate in 2 sports in Khel Mahakumbh 2.0.

    Shri Sanghavi further said that bringing in with transparency, this time the cash award given to the winning players in each sport in Khel Mahakumbh 2.0 will be transferred through RTGS into their bank accounts. In addition, the state government has ensured that the arrangements for normal and Divyang players are the same.

    He further said that the winning candidates in the state-level games will be provided a proper platform to participate at the national and international levels.

    He said that all the players participating in the Asian Games will be awarded an amount of Rs 5 lakh by the state government.

    In his introductory address, Shri Ashwani Kumar, Principal Secretary, Department of Sports, said that Khel Mahakumbh is a means to provide the right platform by identifying the talent of youth at the grassroots level.

    The Khel Mahakumbh, launched in 2010 by the then Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi, completes 12 years today. The journey has been very inspiring.

    He further said that it is the endeavour of the Sports Department to provide proper opportunity to every sportsperson of the state.

    Ahmedabad Mayor Smt. Pratibha Jain, District Collector Ms. Praveena D.K., Secretary of Sports Authority of Gujarat Shri R.D. Bhatt, Joint Secretary of Department of Youth and Culture Shri K.S. Vasava, Vice Chancellor of Swarnim Gujarat Sports University Dr. Arjunsinh Rana, and several people were present.
