Chief Minister lays foundation-stone for building international standard fishing port, at a cost of Rs 300 crore

    Chief Minister Mr. Vijaybhai Rupani today laid foundation-stone for a state-of-art and international standard fishing-port, to be built at a cost of Rs. 300 crore, at Nava Bandar in Gir Somnath district.

    Speaking at the function, the Chief Minister said that the economy of coastal areas will be strengthened by the modernization of ports of Gujarat, including of Saurashtra region, through synchronization of opportunities offered by 1600 km long coastal-line of Gujarat with vast technologies.

    In this reference, the Chief Minister categorically stated that owing to Gujarat Government’s progressive policy for fishery industries, the state’s fishing production has reached to 8.58 lakh metric ton in year 2019-20. Gujarat government is exporting the fishery produces worth more than Rs. 5,000 crore. Gujarat government is determined for the growth of the fishermen.

    Terming Gujarat as the “Gateway” of the country, Mr. Rupani said that at present more than 29,000 fishing boats are registered in Gujarat. The subsidy of Rs. 15 per liter offered on kerosene to fishermen has been increased to Rs. 25 per liter. Besides this, noticeable reduction has also been made on the cess to offer assistance to the fishermen. Pakistan had released 7100 nabbed fishermen.

    The Chief Minister also expressed determination for growth and empowerment of the fishermen. He also gave the details about the systematic works done by Gujarat Maritime Board and Fishery Department.

    Tourism and Fisheries Minister Jawaharbhai Chavda said that Prime Minister Mr. Narendrabhai Modi and Chief Minister Vijay Rupani have taken many welfare projects for the fishermen’s development, being implemented, notably diesel subsidy etc. being deposited in their bank account.

    Fisheries Secretary Nalin Upadhyay delivered welcome speech. Collector Ajay Prakash proposed a vote of thanks.

    Sagarputra Foundation’s Lakhanbhai and Veljibhai presented a cheque as donation towards Girls Education Fund.

    Those present on the occasion included MP Rajeshbhai Chudasama, former MLA Rajshibhai Jotva, Kalubhai Rathod, Jasabhai Barad, Govindbhai Parmar, leaders Zaverbhai Thakrar, Mansingbhai Parmar, Gujarat Maritime Board CEO Avantika Singh, Coast Guard Commandment S.K. Verghese, Industries Commissioner D.P. Desai – all observing Covid-19 protocols.
