Gandhinagar, Thursday: The water level of Sardar Sarovar Dam Narmada Yojana which is considered to be the lifeline of Gujarat has reached its full level i.e. 138.68 meters. As a result of this, 4.73 million acre feet that is, 5.76 lakh crore liters of water has been stored in the reservoir.
Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel visited Ektanagar Thursday morning to be a part of this historic moment of Sardar Sarovar Dam reaching the historical level of 138.68 meters. He also worshipped the river Narmada.
It is worth mentioning here that, after 2019 and 2020 this is the third time Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam has overflowed its full reservoir level.
Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel participated in the Narmada festival organized and chanted the mantras of Namami Devi Narmada at Ektanagar.
The widespread rainfall this year has resulted in good inflow of water into the Narmada basin and dams.
Due to this increase in water level which will ensure that he villages, towns and cities of the state will get sufficient water and will not have to face situation of water crisis until next summer season.
Not only that but the farmers of all villages in Narmada command area will get sufficient water from Narmada for the purpose of irrigation of Ravi crops.
Apart from this, Narmada water is being provided for Sauni Yojana in Saurashtra as well as Sujalam Suflam and other irrigation schemes in North Gujarat due to excess water availability in Narmada Dam.
Sardar Sarovar Yojana provides Narmada water to a total population of 4 crore in 9104 villages-169 cities-7 municipalities.
Not only that, 63,483 km long canal works have been completed as a result of which 16.99 lakh hectares of land in 78 talukas of 17 districts of the state including Kutch are being irrigated.
Under the inspiration of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and with the engineering skills of the state government the water of Narmada has recently reached Mod Kuba after completing a journey of 743 km from Kevadia Ekta Nagar.
After taking the oath of the office Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi within just 17 days he allowed the multi-purpose Sardar Sarovar Narmada Dam to be raised to its full height and ended the longstanding problem of Gujarat and gave the state direction for a bright future in 2014.
The state government also started the work from the day of approval and completed the work of raising the Narmada dam to its full height 7 months earlier than the scheduled time. This multi-purpose scheme has been handed over to the nation on 17th September 2017.
In the year 2019, when Narmada Dam was filled to the full level of 138.68 meters, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi worshipped the water of Narmada.
Even in 2020, the dam was filled to its full level and now for the third time in 2022, when the dam was filled at the historic level of 138.68 meters, the Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel offered prayers to Maa Narmada.
