Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel initiates assistance distribution by the state government to the farmers in state on the purchase of smart phones
Assistance of Rs. 1.48 lakh distributed to 33 farmers in presence of Agriculture Minister and Ministers of State
Rs 3 crore 37 lakh will be given to 5900 farmers across the state under smart phone assistance distribution

Gandhinagar, Wednesday: Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel while inaugurating the distribution of assistance to the farmers of the state on purchase of smart phones from Gandhinagar made it clear that farmers have always been the priority of the government and will continue to be so in the future as well.
CM handed over Rs 1.84 lakh assistance to 33 farmers in Gandhinagar under the Smart Phone Assistance Scheme started with a provision of Rs 15 crore by the Department of Agriculture, Farmer Welfare and Co-operation of the State Government. More than three and a half thousand farmers from about 70 places across the state participated in this program. At the inception of this scheme, assistance amounting to Rs. 3.37 crore was paid to 5911 farmers in the state.
Appreciating the growing prevalence of online and digital technology in the field of agriculture in Gujarat, CM said that the number of online applications on the I-farmer portal launched by the state agriculture department in a single year has reached 27 lakh 30 thousand which is a measure of awareness of the farmers.
CM said that in today’s age when the use of mobile phones for education, marketing, photography, science has increased, it is necessary for farmers to adopt smart phones in agriculture. The state government has taken a noble approach to assist farmers in purchasing smart mobile phones for this purpose, he added. Use of smartphone will enable all the necessary information of various assistance-loans, details of the environment, details of fertilizer-seed cropping system to the farmer at a click and he will be freed from running around or wouldn’t have to leave the field.
CM also called upon the farmers to turn to zero budget-chemical free farming with the increasing use of agro-methods including spraying of pesticides and natural farming using drone technology. CM said that the government stands by farmers in resolving every problem of the farmers. Prime Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi has taken care of the interest of farmers and with the successful implementation of farmer welfare schemes has shown the direction of economic prosperity to the world.
Agriculture minister Shri Raghavjibhai Patel, Ministers of State Shri Mukeshbhai Patel, Kuberbhai Dindor and Devabhai Malam as well as Chief Secretary Shri Pankaj Kumar were present on the occasion.
Inspiring farmers, CM said that the Prime Minister has given us the resolution of digital revolution. In this, the farmer of Gujarat will not fall back anywhere and in the 21st century, in this century of digital revolution, with the widespread use of smart phones, our aim is to make the farmer smart-equipped.
The Chief Minister also called upon the farmers to turn to zero budget-chemical free farming with the increasing use of agro-methods including spraying of pesticides and natural farming using drone technology.
He made it clear that the government has always been positive towards farmers’ issues, questions and representations. He also requested all to work together for the holistic development of the agricultural sector of the state.
Agriculture Minister Shri Raghavjibhai Patel said that this is an attempt of the state government to provide all the information and knowledge of agriculture to the farmers by formulating and implementing the ‘Smartphone Assistance Scheme’ as per the guidelines of the Chief Minister. The state government is working for the farmers with the mantra ‘Farmers are happy, country is happy’, he added.
The Agriculture Minister said that the state government has been helping the farmers with leading efforts like Krishi Mahotsav, Irrigation Schemes, Jyotigram Yojana, Promotion of Horticulture Crops, Agro Business Policy, I-Khedut Portal. The ‘Smart Phone Assistance Scheme’ is another attempt by the government in that direction, he added.
On this occasion, the Agriculture Minister elaborated on the purchase of agricultural products by the state government at support prices, assistance to farmers in case of loss due to natural calamities, benefits of seven steps farmer welfare scheme etc.
Agriculture Secretary Shri Manish Bhardwaj gave a detailed introduction to the Smart Phone Assistance Distribution Scheme at the commencement of the program.
