Chief Minister inaugurates Gujarat’s first Amazon Digital Center at Surat

With the launch of Amazon Facilities Center in Surat, MSMEs in the state will get a global platform- CM

Gandhinagar, Thursday:  Gujarat Chief Minister Mr. Vijay Rupani virtually inaugurated the Gujarat’s first newly built Amazon ‘Digital Kendra’ in Surat.  He said that that there are more than 41,000 MSME units functioning in Surat. With the benefit of Amazon Facilities center in Surat, MSMEs across the state will get a global platform to sell their products.

The CM added that the launch of this first Digital Kendra in Surat has added another dimension to the tradition of ‘Gujarat First’. Surat is well-known as Mini India, people from different states of the country have settled in Surat for employment in diamond, textile and embroidery industry. The launch of Global Trade Commerce Leader – Amazon’s Digital Training center in Surat will benefit small, medium-sized enterprises.

Whole world is a market today and small traders of Gujarat and the artisans of the tribal community will be able to sell their produces in this world market with the help of training from this center. This will also result in employment generation. The digital center will provide training and guidance for online trading to the employers of MSME sector businesses as well as the necessary resources under one roof.

Elaborating on the adverse effects caused due to Covid-19 Pandemic since last two years Mr. Rupani said that it has affected the economic activities but business is in the genes of Gujarati people. Gujarati’s have the potential to turn disasters into opportunity.

Mr. Rupani said that that digital transactions and e-commerce have become essential for health safety during Covid-19 pandemic, economic activities around the world has slowed down during this period. The State Government continued activities with full attentiveness and safety with the mantra of “Na Zookna hai, Na Rukna hai”.

Gujarat is contributing to fulfil Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s resolve for a ‘Self-Reliant India'(Aatmnirbhar Bharat). Gujarat alone accounted for 37% of the total industrial capital investment in the country in the year 2020-21. Gujarat has been a leader in FDI for four consecutive years. For the second year in a row, Gujarat has been at top in recipient of FDI in the country. As a result of transparent policies of the state government and ‘Ease of Doing’, Gujarat has become the ‘Best Choice for Investment’. Now in the field of e-commerce too, the benefits of this digital center will create a win-win situation for MSME businesses and other small and large businesses.

Inaugurating the Amazon Digital Kendra in Surat, the Chief Minister also congratulated Amazon India.

Gujarat is at the forefront in the fields of automobiles, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, textiles, ceramics, renewable energy, maritime and urban development. More than 1 lakh MSME units in Gujarat will benefit from Amazon’s warehousing infrastructure and robust supply chain network and world-class opportunities, said CM.

Speaking on the occasion Amazon India’s Country Head Mr. Amit Agarwal said that Amazon’s Digital Kendra will help MSMEs grow their business by adopting technology and will also play an important role in improving the Indian economy. Vice President of Amazon Public Policy Mr. Chetan Krishna Swamy outlined the Amazon Facilities Center.

Additional Chief Secretary to the CM Mr. M. K. Das, Consumer Business Vice President of Amazon India Manish Tiwary joined on the occasion.
