Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the `Purna Tidal Regulator Dam Project” at a cost of Rs.110 crore on the Purna river at Kasbapar in Navsari district of South Gujarat. He also performed ground breaking ceremony for various developmental projects.
The Chief Minister unveiled the e-plaque of the ‘Purna Tidal Regulator Scheme’ and performed Bhumi Pujan at the project site. The CM inaugurated a 100-bed sub-district hospital at Chikhli at a cost of Rs. 36 crore and a sports complex to be built at a cost of Rs.10 crore by the Sports Authority of Gujarat at Abrama in Jalalpore taluka, along with a bridge over the Ambika river near Dhamdachha on Gandevi Amalsad Marg. A newly constructed high-level bridge, at a cost of Rs. 39 crore, was also inaugurated at the site.
During his address, CM said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation of Gujarat’s development on ‘Panchshakti’. Today, the people are getting its benefits. Gujarat has been at the forefront of development in ‘Water, Energy, Knowledge, Defence, and People (Jan Shakti).” A dedicated water system has been created in the state to provide adequate potable water, water for domestic consumption and irrigation in a hassle-free manner.
The Chief Minister further said that water levels of Gujarat have increased due to check dams, sack dams (Bahoriband), Sujalam-Sufalam Yojana, SAUNI Yojana, irrigation schemes, and a series of other multi-purpose schemes, canals, and pipeline networks.
The Chief Minister expressed happiness over the economic benefits of the Purna Regulator Project to the people of Navsari city and 21 surrounding villages and said that the project will create a huge reservoir of 18 km length, which will store 255 million cubic feet of fresh water. To add, 4200 acres of land in 21 villages will get the benefit of irrigation. The tidal waters of the sea will stop entering the river, thereby preventing salinisation of surface and ground water. This will prevent the loss of arable, fertile land.
Terming water as the base of development, the Chief Minister said that it is the government’s aim to raise the underground water level, including reservoirs, so that the people do not have to face the problem of potable water and irrigation water. The ‘Vaghrech Tidal Regulator Project which on the Kaveri river near Bilimora, is nearing completion. We are inspired from the Prime Minister’s approach of launching development works in a time bound manner. The Vaghrech Tidal Project is a proof of the same.
Water Resources and Water Supply Minister Mr. Kunwarjibhai Bavalia said, “South Gujarat receives sufficient rainfall every year. However, rising sea salinity is causing fresh water and irrigation problems. This government is dedicated to prevent sea salinity in Navsari city and surrounding coastal villages.”
State BJP president and MP from Navsari, Shri CR Patil, said, “The state government has undertaken this project for the welfare of the local people. With the construction of this dam, clean drinking water will be provided to the villages in an area of 18 km.”
Mr. Patil added, “PM Mitra Mega Textile Park Scheme is to be implemented in Navsari district at a cost of Rs.70 thousand crores. This will open up a new direction for development and create new employment opportunities for the youth of Navsari.”
Minister of State for Forest and Environment Shri Mukeshbhai Patel, District Panchayat President Shri Bhikhubhai Ahir, MLAs Shri Rakeshbhai Desai, Shri Nareshbhai Patel, District Collector Shri Amit Prakash Yadav, District Development Officer Smt. Pushpalta, officials and citizens were present during the event.
