CM launches Sujalam Sufalam Jal Abhiyaan in Surendranagar

Citizens, organizations have donated over Rs. 100-Cr for SSJA: CM Mr. Vijaybhai Rupani

On Sunday at launching function of ongoing state wide Sujalam Sufalam Jal Abhiyaan (SSJA), Gujarat Chief Minister Mr. Vijaybhai Rupani made his contribution by digging land at lake deepening works at Vadla village in Surendranagar district. He also distributed ‘Sukhdi’ (sweet made with flour and purified butter) and buttermilk to the people.

With exalted tone, the Chief Minister announced that the ‘Jal Abhiyaan’ (Water Conservation Campaign) has, so far, collected contribution of over Rs. 100-crore from individual citizens and various organizations. The Jal Abhiyaan is being carried out with 50-50 % partnership from village residents and government.

Mr. Rupani pointed out that Gujarat has just eight rivers that contain water round the year. Water levels in most of these rivers are largely depending upon the rainfall in their catchment areas. Therefore, our best option is to enhance the water conservation capacity of our water reservoirs.

Citing an example of work done with people’s partnership in Amreli district, the Chief Minister said that a huge lake spread over 60 bigha of land areas has been constructed there to conserve the rain waters.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister was handed over total donations of Rs. 21-lakh. Of this, the donation of Rs. 10-lakh was collection of one-day salary donated by the employees of district’s revenue and panchayat departments, while Rs. 11-lakh was donated by Mr. Anandji Mohitji and Sarpanches of the panchayats.

Under the SSJA, the state government is going to carry out as many as 963 works at a cost of Rs. 633-lakh In Surendranagar district.

The occasion was graced by former MP Mr. Shankarbhai Vegad, former MLA Mrs. Varshaben Doshi, leaders Mr. Dilipbhai Patel, Mr. Amrutbhai Dabhi, Mr. Mukeshbhai Patel, Mr. Ramsangbhai, Mr. Jignaben Pandya, Mr. Hitendrasinh Chauhan, Mr. Jagdish Makwana, Sarpanch Mrs. Ramilaben Chauhan, In-charge secretary Ms Anuradha Mall, Information Director Mr. Ashok Kalaria, Additional Information Director Mr. Arvind Patel, Collector Mr. K. Rajesh, DDO Mr. Manish Banshal and others.
