CM reviews flood affected areas of Gir-Somnath district

To provide guidance to relief & rescue operations in flood affected districts CM assigns one district each to five ministers

Showing total care and concerns for the flood affected people of Gir-Somnath district, Gujarat Chief Minister Mr. Vijaybhai Rupani made review of the flood situation and relief and rescue operations, this afternoon. He was accompanied by Chief Secretary Dr. J. N. Singh, Chief Principal Secretary Mr. Kailashnathan, and other senior officials of the state government.

Due to bad weather condition, Mr. Rupani had used a Special Helicopter of the Indian Air Force and landed at Jetpur; and from there he travelled by roads. Earlier in the morning, due to bad weather Mr. Rupani could not use his official helicopter and attempted to reach Keshod by a plane, but, he could not land there and returned to Gandhinagar.

Meanwhile, , the Chief Minister had instructed his five ministerial colleagues to reach out to the people of flood affected districts to coordinate relief and rescue operations of the local administrations in Saurashtra and South-Gujarat regions. These ministers and their allocated districts were – Revenue Minister Mr. Kaushik Patel (Valsad), Agriculture Minister Mr. R. C. Faldu (Amreli), Forest Minister Mr.  Ganpatsinh Vasava (Dangs), Food and Civil Supplies Minister Mr. Jayeshbhai Radadiya (Junagadh), and minister of state for forest Mr. Ramanbhai Patkar (Navsari).

With a view to avail constant monitoring and to provide guidance to the relief and rescue operations in the flood affected areas, Mr. Rupani also postponed this week’s customary weekly cabinet meeting being held in Gandhinagar, every Wednesday. To monitor and provide the guidance to the relief and rescue operations being held in Gir-Somnath district, the Chief Minister also held a meeting with the district collector and senior officials.

It should be noted that though Mr. Rupani was ill-health yesterday, he had spent two-hours in the State Emergency Operation Center in Gandhinagar to provide guidance and to review and monitor the relief and rescue operations being held in Saurashtra and South-Gujarat regions of the state.  To take stock of the situation in Gir-Somnath district, the Chief Minister had made talks, using the hotline, with district collector from the same control room, yesterday.
