Gandhinagar, Tuesday: As the eighth International Yoga Day is being celebrated across the country today, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Bhai Modi was virtually present in the World Yoga Day programs from Mysore.
The main function of the state level International Yoga Day celebration was held at Sabarmati Riverfront in the presence of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, Union Minister of State for Finance Shri
Dr. Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad and Minister of State for Sports Shri Harsh Sanghvi.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the citizens of the country to make yoga not a part of life but a way of life by making a virtual presence from Mysore on the occasion of the 8th International Yoga Day. Prime Minister said that the idea of healthy and peaceful world will get impetus through the medium of yoga. Whether the issue is global warming or international conflicts, yoga is the solution of collective consciousness and establish world peace. Yoga has become a problem solver. Yoga increases our productivity even in a stressful environment and we have to know, adapt, accept, develop and expand Yoga, he further added. The Prime minister referred to the Start Up Yoga Challenge launched by the Central Government and encouraged youth to come up with new ideas for experimenting yoga.

Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel said that when under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, we are celebrating ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’, International Yoga Day will be celebrated by yoga lovers at 75 iconic places across the state. The Chief Minister wished that ‘Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav’ will become the elixir of health, and yoga would spread nectar in everyone’s life.
The Chief Minister said that when this year we are celebrating World Yoga Day on the theme ‘Yoga for Humanity’. Shri Narendra has encouraged people of all countries, religions, castes and creeds to practice yoga and has also encouraged us for adopting a healthy lifestyle with yoga-pranayama and by this many people of the world are connecting with each other through yoga today, said the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister further said that Shri Narendra Modi has done a commendable work by spreading yoga to the nook and corners of the world. He has explained the proper importance of yoga to the entire world. Thus, Shri Narendra Modi’s efforts for “Sarvajan Sukhaya” have been successful. Today, more than 130 countries of the world are experiencing the depth of Indian culture through the practice of yoga.
Explaining the importance of yoga, the Chief Minister said that the health awareness of the people was on the rise at a time when the entire world was battling the Corona pandemic and more people started have accepting that a lifestyle with yoga-pranayama was beneficial against the ruthless pandemic.
Talking about the achievements of Gujarat State Yog Board, he said that Gujarat State Yog Board was established two years ago with the inspiration of Shri Narendra Modi. More than 1 lakh trainers have been trained in Gujarat by this board and these trainers are teaching yoga to others.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister also appealed to all the citizens to make yoga a part of life as well as to stay disease free by adopting yoga.

Union Minister of State for Finance Dr. Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad said that it is a matter of pride for all of us that yoga is being celebrated in 75 iconic places while the country is celebrating the 75th ‘Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav’ under the leadership of Prime Minister.
Shri Bhagwat Karadev also congratulated the State Yog Board, Ministry of AYUSH as well as the State Government for celebrating Yoga Day on a large scale in Ahmedabad and Gujarat.
“Yoga is an integral part of our culture. It is the heritage of our country and Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has done a commendable work by taking our heritage to the global level.
On this occasion, Home and Youth and Culture Minister Shri Harsh Sanghvi said that for the first time in the history of the state, 1.25 crore people have joined in the celebration of Yoga Day, which shows how much the Gujarati people are aware about yoga.
The Minister further said that World Yoga Day is celebrated not only in the country but also in most of the countries of the world today. The credit for this goes to the successful Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. An invaluable gift of Indian culture, the benefits of yoga are spread all over the world and with the aim of building a healthy society, Narendra proposed to celebrate Yoga Day at the international level.
Stating that after the establishment of Gujarat Yog Board, yoga education has reached village to village, the Minister added that yogas are recognized as a sport in the state and 78,000 youths participated in the last Khel Mahakumbh by doing yoga.
Yoga Day has also been celebrated at 75 iconic places in Gujarat today as part of ‘Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav’. He also expressed optimism that a healthy India would be built when the Fit India Movement started with the inspiration of the Prime Minister.
‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’ – This Year’s World Yoga Day was also celebrated at a total of 75 iconic places in the state, marking the 75th anniversary of independence.
Collective yoga sadhana programs were held at 17 religious places including Modhera Surya Mandir and Ambaji Mandir, 18 historical places including Dada Hari ni Vav and Dandi Smarak, 22 tourist places including Rann of Kutch, 17natural scenic places including Mangarh Hill and Saputara.
This year, the state government also planned to boost tourism in the state by linking yoga with tourism.
Yoga Day was celebrated in the state at district level, taluka level, municipal level as well as at schools, ITIs, health centres, police stations and jails. District level celebrations were also held at iconic places like Ahmedabad’s Shantigram Adani, Kutch’s White Desert, Mehsana’s Dharoi Dam and Narmada’s Statue of Unity.
84,65,000 students from 45,000 primary schools in the state as well as 3,23,000 teachers, 28, 43,000 students of 12,500 Secondary and higher secondary schools and 89,000 teachers, 2600 university-colleges’ 16,14,000 students and 60,000 professors, total 28,700 students of ITIs i.e., 100 per 287 ITIs of state joined this celebration. 12,70,400 people performed yoga at 1477 primary health centres and 6500 sub centres.
On this occasion the Mayor of Ahmedabad Shri Kiritbhai Parmar, Deputy Mayor Shri Gitaben Patel, Chief Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Shri Kailashnathan, Chief Secretary Shri Pankaj Kumar, Principal Secretary of Sports Department Shri Ashwini Kumar, Municipal Commissioner Shri Lochan Sehra, MPs, MLAs, Corporators, Ahmedabad District party president Shri Amit Shah, Standing Committee Chairman Shri Hitesh Barot, Gujarat State Yog Board Chairman Shri Sheeshpal and a large number of yoga lovers were also present.
