Torrential rain in catchment areas in Rajasthan flooded dam, timely release of waters by authorities from dam saved many lives
Ahmedabad, August 01, 2017: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today after directing and reviewing the relief works in the worst flood affected areas of Banaskantha, also visited Dantiwada and Sipudam site to supervise them.
After visiting the dam site, the Chief Minister made interaction with the dam engineers’ to inquire about the water levels of the dam.
The heavy rainfall in catchment areas of Banas River in Rajasthan had resulted into influx of 2.5 lakh cusec waters in Dantiwada-Sipudam. If the gates of the dam were not timely opened it was possible that dam might get damage. Thus, as a precautionary measure the people living in low-lying areas were firstly shifted to the safer places and then dam’s gates were opened which prevented lost of many human lives.
The Chief Minister said, the heavy flow of the flood waters had changed streams of the river as a result lands and farms were washed away. All affected people will be given assistance as per the rules and regulations of the state government. He also praised the timely decision of the dam engineers’ in opening the dam gates.
Those who accompanied Mr. Rupani, included Energy Minister Shri Chimanbhai Sapariya, Parliamentary Secretary Shri Dabhi, and other officers.
