Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today said the State Education Department will hold its annual statewide Shala Praveshotsav-2017 in rural areas from June 8 to 10, and in urban areas from June 22 to 24, 2017 in collaboration with other departments concerned to ensure 100 per cent enrollment in secondary schools also from the new academic session.
Addressing the district-level department officers though videoconferencing from here, he recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had initiated the Shala Praveshotsav drive as a celebration when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. He said the New India needs their contribution in Digital India, Skill India, Make in India, Startup India.
Since teachers never retire, Mr. Rupani called upon all the five-lakh retired teachers-principals to join the celebration. It is also the social responsibility of every citizen to join the noble cause.
He said the state government has recruited 1.60-lakh teaching assistants, built 1.25-lakh classrooms, 30,000 school compound walls and 20,000 computer labs, taking advantage of technology, like tablets. The government plans to provide 2,500 virtual classes during this new session. Even as the state government allocates Rs.25,000-crore on education in its annual budget, it assisted 87,000 students get admission in private schools under the provisions of Right To Education (RTE) Act in 2016-17.
Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasma said that Shala Praveshotsav drive for primary schools (Standard-I to VII) is being extended to ensure 100 per cent enrollment in Standard-VIII as well from the new academic session.
Ministers of State for Education Nanubhai Vanani and Jaydrathsinh Parmar, and Chief Secretary J.N. Singh were also present on the occasion.
Principal Secretary Education Sunaina Tomar, Director of Primary Education M.I. Joshi, GCRT Director T.S. Joshi also spoke on the occasion.
