Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani here today expressed his resolve to motivate the youth to take active part in building a new India, by invoking the mantra of ‘skill + will + zeal = win’ by channelising the capacity of various universities in the state.
He said that several educated youth passing out of the state universities are now moving towards global opportunities in the knowledge-based economy.
Mr. Rupani was addressing a function to mark the silver jubilee of Nirma University through videoconferencing. He said that it has become a centre of excellence and is now being recognised among the best universities in India and abroad. He placed on record the university’s founder Padma Shri Karsanbhai Patel’s contribution to the society. He also released a souvenir on the occasion.
He recalled that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who as the then Chief Minister of Gujarat initiated capacity building in higher education since 2001 by giving emphasis on quality education and research by encouraging Self Financed Institutions (SFIs) in the state on PPP model.
Earlier, he said that Gujarat students had to go to other states for higher studies due to absence of enough SFIs. The number of universities in the state has now increased from 9 (nine) to 67 and medical seats from 1,100 to 6,500. This is an age of knowledge and no state can be left behind in the quest for excellence.
Padma Shri Karsanbhai Patel in his welcome address spoke on the successful march of Nirma University since its inception 25 years ago.
Those who participated at the videoconferencing included University Vice-President K. K. Patel, Director Anupam Singh, faculty members and office-bearers.
