Guj CM distributes Rs.1,065-cr for development works to 8 municipal corporations and 155 municipalities

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today distributed Rs.1,065-crore for development works to eight municipal corporation and 155 municipalities on the occasion of his entering the fifth year in office in presence of Deputy Chief Minster Nitinbhai Patel through videoconferencing from here.

This included Rs.877-crore for the municipal corporations, including Rs.325 crore for Ahmedabad, Rs. 265 crore for Surat, Rs. 99 crore for Vadodara, Rs. 78 crore for Rajkot, Rs. 36 crore for Bhavnagar, Rs. 34 crore for Jamnagar, and Rs. 18 crore for Junagadh and Gandhinagar each. Similarly, the remaining Rs. 188-crore were earmarked for the 155 municipalities as per their category A, B, C and D.

The funds were received by Ministers and office-bearers of respective cities and cities at the district headquarters, connected online.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that no development work should stop for want of funds.  All works are on even during lockdown in the wake of COVID-19. While the earlier Congress government and leaders had no vision, he said, the present government has been allocating funds in wholesale for planned development of towns for the comforts of the citizens with basic amenities like road, light, water, etc.

He exhorted the people’s representatives in the civic bodies to solve the citizens problems through dialogue, and not through distraught. He called developing cashless, online system for providing civic services.

Deputy Chief Minister Nitinbhai Patel who also holds Finance portfolio said that a whopping Rs.13,000 crore has been allotted for urban development. Prime Minister has provided new direction to urban development on the occasion of golden jubilee of the state’s foundation through his vision. Gujarat is at the forefront of urban development in the country.

Gujarat Municipal Finance Board Chairman Dhansukhbhai Bhanderi, Additional Chief Secretary for Urban Development Mukesh Puri and Municipal Administration Commissioner Beniwal also spoke on the occasion.
