Chief Minister Mr. Vijaybhai Rupani today categorically stated that two ambitious projects – ‘Tharad – Shipu Multi-Purpose Scheme’ and Agriculture College, built at a cost of Rs. 635-crore, at Tharad – will change the scenario for the farmers of Banaskantha district.
He was speaking a function organized to dedicate to people newly built Tharad Agriculture College and to launch ‘Tharad – Shipu Multi-Purpose Scheme’ at Tharad. These two ambitious schemes would provide new direction of agri knowledge and science to the farmers.
Talking about ‘Tharad – Shipu Scheme, the Chief Minister said that the scheme would fill 39 lakes of 106 villages with Narmada waters to provide irrigation facilities to more than 6,000 hectares of land; ensuing it will changing the scenario of farmers located on desert-end of Banaskantha district.

Modi, when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, we are attempting to double the income of the farmers through ‘Krushi Mahotsavs’. Otherwise the farmers were completed ignored during the Congress regime.
He further added that to empower the farmers, the state government has given priority to irrigation and electricity sectors. This state government was always on the side and support of the farmers. During the flood and unseasonal rain situations the state government had given assistance of Rs. 1,500-cr and Rs. 100-Cr, respectively. For drought affected tehsils, the state government had given assistance worth of Rs. 13,000-Cr.
For betterment of the farmers, an assistance of Rs. 6,000 to farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Kishan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) and purchase worth of Rs. 9,300-Cr on supportive prices were done by the state government, the Chief Minister added.
Others who spoke on the occasion included Member of Parliament Mr. Parbatbhai Patel, Mr. R. K. Patel – Vice-Chancellor of Sardar Agri University and others.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated an agriculture exhibition.
The event was also graced by MLAs – Mr. Shashikant Pandya and Mr. Kirtisinh Vaghela, Mr. Vyas – Vice-Chancellor of Anand Agri University, District Collector Mr. Sandeep Sangle, DDO Mr. Ajay Dahiya, former ministers – Mr. Keshaji Chauhan and Mr. Harjivan Patel and others.
