Guj CM launches statewide SSJA with an aim to deepen the lake of Kolavada village

Gandhinagar, Saturday: Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel launched the fifth phase of Sujalam Sufalam Jal Abhiyan from Kolavada village in Gandhinagar. This water campaign has been carried out since the year 2018 to raise the ground water level in Gujarat and to create public awareness for the purpose of collecting rainwater.

Considering water as the centrepiece of development, CM said that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has glorified water power and combined it with manpower to make Gujarat a water surplus state from a water deficit state.

Ground water level in the state has risen due to water storage, irrigation and water storage dimensions like Check Dam, Boribandh, Sujalam-Suflam Yojana, Narmada Canal Network, Sauni Yojana, water has reached the farms of the farmers. CM said that, as a result of this Sujalam Sufalam Jal Abhiyan, the ground water level will rise and thereby not only human beings but also animals and birds will get enough water. He also said, that not only by saving water and electricity we can serve the nation but he also inspired us to realize the dream of Atmanirbhar Gujarat to Atmanirbhar India through water conservation.

CM further said that, state government is constantly aware of water management plans so that people do not face problems pertaining to water. In this context, he said that Gujarat will also be at the forefront in the campaign launched by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi of ‘Har Ghar Jal’ in accordance with ‘Nal se Jal’.  He also expressed his commitment to make 100 percent tap water available to every household in the state by the end of this year.

Lord Mahavir has also taught us to use water like ghee. The need of the hour is to consume water judiciously and adopt water consumption. CM urged more and more people to join this campaign to make earth truly prosperous by adopting natural agriculture and by giving up use of chemical fertitlizer. CM initiated the work to deepen the lake of Kolwada village and formally launched this water campaign.

In this fifth phase of Sujalam Sufalam water campaign more than 13,000 works will be carried out in the entire state by 31st May 2022.

Such works are estimated this year to increase the storage capacity by 15 thousand lakh cubic feet. Through this campaign approximately more than 25 lakh employment will be generated. The four phases of this SSJA in the state have been a resounding success with the help of the people.

From the year 2018 – 2021, 56698 works have been done Under SSJA. 21,402 lakes have been deepened and new lakes have been constructed also 1,204 new check dams have been constructed, moreover cleaning of 50,353 km long canals.

As a result of these works, the total water storage capacity has increased by 61,781 lakh cubic feet in 3 years and besides, 156.93 lakh employment has been created.

Gandhinagar MLA Shri Shambhuji Thakor said that, state-wide launch of SSJA has been started from today at Kolwada in Gandhinagar. Because of unequal rainfall in the state has resulted into increase of groundwater consumption. This campaign was launched in the entire state from the year 2018 to create awareness about water consumption and increase water storage capacity. This campaign was also continued during COVID-19.

Gandhinagar Mayor Shri Hitesh Makwana said that, the state receives inconsistent and insufficient rainfall. Considering the geographical location of Gujarat, this campaign has been started since last four years in the entire state to increase the water storage capacity in the state. In Gandhinagar district 658 works have been done in four years. In which 389 works of deepening of lake and check dam, 63 works of farm Talwadi and forest Talwadi and other water storage works like cleaning of rain water line, operation of rain water harvesting, purification of rivers etc. have been carried out. The total water storage capacity of the district has increased by 617 lakh cubic feet.

On the occasion of the launch of this campaign, Dehgaam MLA Shri Balrajsinh Chauhan, Gandhinagar District Panchayat President Shri Dilip Patel, Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation Deputy Mayor Shri Premalsinh Gol, Standing Committee Chairman Shri Jaswant Patel, District BJP President Shri Anil Patel, State Chief Secretary Shri Pankaj Kumar, Secretary of Department of Water Resources Shri K.A. Patel, District Development Officer Smt. Surabhi Gautam including other dignitaries and citizens of Kolwada village were present.
