Gujarat Chief Minister Mr. Vijay Rupani visited the Wildlife Care Center in Ahmedabad. He said that GoG has launched “Karuna Abhiyan” (Mercy Mission) to save injured birds during Uttrayan (Kite) festival.
Makarsakranti (Kite Festival) is an important festival. Karuna Abhiyan is carried out in collaboration with the Animal Husbandry Department, Forest Department and various Non- Government voluntary organizations. A helpline number, ambulance and ICU for on-site treatment are also provided under the Karuna Abhiyan.
As many as 35,000 birds lost their lives every year before the beginning of the campaign. 13500 people, including 650 hospitals and 5000 government employees joined the campaign. Chief Minister further stated that the government is taking every possible measure to protect lives and injuries being caused during the Kite Festival. Government is strict against the usage of ‘Chinese’ threads.
Minister for Forest and Tourism Mr. Ganpatsinh Vasava, MLA Mr. Bhupendra Patel, Mayor Smt. Bijalben Patel, Additional Chief Secretary of Forest and Environment Mr. Rajiv Gupta, Collector, High Officials of Forest epartment and people were present.
