Gujarat CM unfurl National Flag on 74th Independence Day at Gandhinagar

    Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani unfurled and saluted the National Flag at a simple and stately 74th Independence Day ceremony in the backdrop of statues of three illustrious great persons Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar at the Swarnim Park here today.

    Addressing the people on the occasion, he said the Independence Day function is being celebrated this year with austerity maintaining social distancing in the prevailing situation owing to spectre of global pandemic novel coronavirus COVID-19.

    Even as Gujarat led in application of digital technology in different fields, the Chief Minister said the state will take lead in implementing the Prime Minister’s ‘National Digital Health Mission’ announced to mark the 74th Independence Day. He exuded confidence that Gujarat’s will overcome the challenge with people cooperation with the mantra ‘Jitshe Gujarat; Harshe Corona’.

    He said that Gujarat’s patient recovery rate is 78 per cent and fatality rate 2.1 per cent due to intensive and aggressive steps taken to combat and control corona, like increasing it to 50,000 tests daily, distributing medicine and other facilities to 52 lakh people at their doorstep through a fleet of Dhanvantari Raths, acknowledged by even WHO.

    The state government distributed free 127 lakh quintal food grains worth Rs.3,338-crore to 68 lakh families comprising five crore people during the lockdown.

    He said that Gujarat will also execute Atmanirbhar Bharat Yojna, Gujarat’s Industrial Policy-2020, and ensure all round holistic development – including agriculture, industry, energy, education and health – for the uplift of the poor, have-not, oppressed, the last man in the last mile.

    Mr. Rupani recalled that Gujarat has also overcome natural calamities like flood, cyclone, earthquake, cloudburst. The state has implemented Chief Minister’s Kisan Sahay Yojna to provide crop insurance without taking any premium this kharif season, timely distributing water, electricity, seed, fertilizer.

    He said that Gujarat Government decided to observe the 74th Independence Day as Corona Warriors’ Felicitation Day.

    He felicitated 45 medical personnel who risked their life in critical conditions to save others life. He also honoured nine famous doctors serving as the ‘State Covid Task Force’. They are Dr Pankaj Shah, Padmashri Dr Tejas Patel, Dr. R. K. Patel, Dr Dilip Mavlankar, Dr V. N. Shah, Dr Atul Shah, Dr Ami Parikh, Dr Maharshi Desai and Dr Tushar Patel.

    Mr. Rupani listed the state’s achievements during the last 19 years, making it a water surplus state, constructing 1.51 lakh check dams (as against 18,356 check dams in the previous 40 years), increasing water reservoir capacity by 42,000 lakh cubic feet, increasing foreign direct investment inflow by 240 per cent, starting 43 per cent of nation’s startups, with lowest unemployment rate of 3.40 per cent, has zero tolerance policy toward corruption, conviction rate at 43 per cent, distributed assistive kits worth Rs.26,000-crore to 1.50 crore beneficiaries at 1,530 Garib Kalyan Mela.

    The Chief Minister also planted saplings at the Swarnim Park after flag hoisting.

    Those present at ceremony included Chief Secretary Anil Mukim, Director-General of Police Ashish Bhatia, Additional Chief Secretaries Sangeeta Singh, Pankaj Kumar, M.K. Das and other senior officers.
