Gujarat Chief Minster attends Florence Nightingale’s 200 th birth anniversary at Rajkot

    Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today attended a first-of-its-kind mass light lamping and oath taking ceremony, organised by All Gujarat Self Finance Nursing Association, to mark the 200 th birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, known as the lady with the lamp, at Rajkot.

    Speaking at the function, he exhorted the nursing community to uphold the profession’s motto ‘service before self’, and help realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of building a New India. He said there is demand for nurses in India and abroad, and the association should try the nurses’ placement. Mr. Rupani said the state government has lit the proverbial light by employing over 6,000 nurses. He wished various universities and colleges in the state take a lead in training nurses.

    Indian Nursing Council Chairman T. Dilip Kumar administered mass lamping and oath taking ceremony of 3,300 students of several nursing colleges of Rajkot and Jamnagar districts at one venue. He said the Geneva-based WHO will take cognizance of the event. Gujarat Nursing Council Registrar Pragyaben Dabhi spoke on Florence Nightingale’s contribution to the profession.

    All Gujarat Self Finance Nursing Association President Mehul Rupani said that 12 colleges
    belonging to the association offered free services to 100 families, totalling 1,200 families.
    All Gujarat Self Finance Nursing Association Secretary Kishoresinh Sodha proposed a vote
    of thanks.

    Bhanderi, MP Mohanbhai Kundariya, Mayor Binaben Acharya, MLAs Lakhabhai Sagathiya,
    Arvindbhai Raiyani, Kamleshbhai Mirani, Nitin Bharadwaj, Collector Remya Mohan, Joint
    Commissioner of Police Khurshid Ahmed, Municipal Commissioner Udit Agrawal,

    Commissioner of Police Manoj Agrawal and Saurashtra University Vice-Chancellor
    Nitinbhai Pethani.
