Gujarat Govt signs MoU with civil aviation ministry to develop 11 airports of state

With a view to boost regional connectivity by developing 11 airports, the Gujarat government today signed MoU with the Ministry of Civil Aviation under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS). It may be mentioned that, under the leadership of Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, the RCS scheme has been given boost in National Civil Aviation Policy-2016 to develop civil aviation sector and aviation infrastructure.

Under this connectivity scheme airports of Bhavnagar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Surat, Porbandar, Mehsana, Mandvi, Amreli, Kandla, Keshod and Deesa, will be developed, which fall under un-served-underserved category.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed here in presence of Union Civil Aviation Minister Mr. Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Gujarat Chief Minister Mr. Vijay Rupani. State Government will focus on making available most suitable commercial atmosphere to make Gujarat as aviation hub.

This MoU has been signed to develop the 11 air-strips / airports which are in working or not in working position, so that the state aviation sector may develop in more efficient way to provide easy connectivity to the passengers of state. The infrastructural development will take place as er the RCS of civil aviation ministry.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed and mutually exchanged by Principal Secretary to State Tourism Department Mr. S J Haider and Chairman of Airports Authority of India Mr. Guruprasad Mahapatra and senior official of Civil Aviation Ministry Mrs. Usha Padhee in presence of Mr. Vijay Rupani, Mr. Gajapathi Raju, State Cabinet Ministers Mr. Babubhai Bokhiriya, Mr. Jashabhai Barad, Chief Secretary Mr. J N Singh and senior officials of state and central government.

A discussion was held between Mr. Rupani and Mr. Raju in a meeting with senior officials of state and central governments to develop Dholera airport on PPP basis as a part of Green Field Airport Policy of Union Government. Also there were fruitful discussions regarding establishment and development of various facilities at Ahmedabad airport such as executive lounge, distribution in terminal building, luggage screening, additional aero bridge on Ahmedabad airport and NSOP lounge in GUJSAIL building etc.
