    Gandhinagar, August 23: High Commissioner of the Republic of Nauru to India Marlene Moses paid a courtesy visit to Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar.

    Marlene Moses, who was fascinated after her visit to Gujarat which is also Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s home state, said that under his visionary leadership, Gujarat has achieved unparalleled progress in overall development including renewable energy, health, and climate change.

    During her conversation with Chief Minister, she also mentioned that a small republic like Nauru has a lot to learn from this global development of Gujarat.

    Nauru is a small nation spread over an area of 21 square kilometres and has a population of 10,000 and has warm relations with two larger nations, India and Japan. Not only that, she expressed her happiness that India is ready to become a developed nation in the world under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

    During this meeting, the Chief Minister expressed his interest to know about the measures taken by Nauru, which is rich in phosphates and coastline, to tackle the problem of climate change.
    Gujarat has a 1600 km long coastline and is also very cautious towards the effects of climate change under the direction of the Prime Minister.

    The Chief Minister also briefed about the Prime Minister’s direction to address climate change concerns effectively through new dimensions like International Solar Alliance and Mission LiFE.

    Talking about the measures taken to combat climate change, High Commissioner of the Republic of Nauru said that measures have been taken in her country to move people to other areas higher than the sea coast.

    In this context, CM said that Gujarat-Nauru has the potential for strategic partnership and knowledge sharing on climate change adaptation measures. Gujarat is taking the leadership for energy security as well.

    High Commissioner Marlene Moses informed that Nauru has prepared a project report with an international organization for effective measures against climate change. In this meeting, Shri Bhupendra Patel also suggested sending a report to the Climate Change Department of Gujarat and the team to study this report.

    Chief Minister also extended his invitation for Nauru to participate in the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit- 2024 to be held under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

    Additional Chief Secretary to CM Shri Pankaj Joshi and the Industries Department’s Additional Chief Secretary Shri S.J. Haider joined CM for the meeting.
