    Offers floral tributes to Pujya Bapu at Gandhi Ashram

    Gandhinagar, Monday: President Smt. Droupadi Murmu, who visited Gujarat for the first time after assuming the office of the President, started the tour by visiting the Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad. The President felt blessed to pay Gandhi-Vandan at Sabarmati Ashram, which is the center of India’s independence movement and the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi.

    The President first reached the Sabarmati Ashram and paid floral tributes to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the Ashram premises. Governor Shri Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel were also present during the President’s visit to Gandhi Ashram. President Smt. Droupadi Murmu viewed the archival exhibition depicting the life of Mahatma Gandhi and the struggle of the freedom movement. Also, she observed the model of Brihad Ashram Redevelopment Project and gathered details regarding the same. The President visited Mahatma Gandhi’s residence Hridaykunj and paid obeisance to Mahatma Gandhi’s portrait by wearing a thread necklace and also spun a charkha at the Gandhi Ashram.

    The President described the feeling of visiting Sabarmati Ashram in the visitor’s book. She wrote that “coming to this holy land of Sabarmati, the saintly father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, has inspired me with indescribable faith and inspiration. I feel a profound sense of peace in this compound, which has long been the center of the independence struggle. In this compound, the priceless legacy of Pujya Bapu’s extraordinary life-work is preserved. For this I express my appreciation to all the people who take care of Sabarmati Ashram.”

    Leaders of Sabarmati Ashram Trust Shri Amrit Modi, Shri Nitin Shukla, Shri Jayesh Patel and Shri Atul Pandya informed the President about Gandhi Ashram and redevelopment project.

    Chief Secretary Shri Pankaj Kumar, Ahmedabad District Collector Shri Sandeep Sangle, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner Shri Sanjay Srivastava etc. were also present during the President’s visit to Gandhi Ashram.
