    Gandhinagar, Thursday: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi said that combined efforts increase the speed of development, thus the country also develops faster.

    Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and dedicated 59 development projects worth Rs.3472.54 crores in Surat city-district on the auspicious occasion of Navratri. Rs.2429.18 crores of Surat Municipal Corporation, Rs.369.60 crores of Dream City project and Rs.673.76 crores of central and state governments, thus foundation stone laying and dedication of a total of Rs. 3472.54 of development works was done by the Prime Minister.

    He announced water supply works worth Rs.672 crore, drainage projects worth Rs.890 crore, Biodiversity Park at a cost of Rs.139 crore and other development works such as public infrastructure, heritage restoration, city bus/BRTS infrastructure, electric vehicle infrastructure and other projects undertaken by the central and state governments. As a result of which the development of the district including the city of Surat, known as the Diamond City of India, will be accelerated.

    Due to rate at which development has occurred in Surat in the last two decades, Surat has become one of the fastest growing cities in the world. The Prime Minister appreciated that Surat has progressed very quickly compared to other cities of the country.

    Prime Minister said that as people from all regions of the country live in Surat and show unity in diversity, this city gives the impression of a mini Hindustan. Respect for labor is the specialty of Surat and here along with the appreciation of ability comes the aspiration for advancement and dreams of moving forward in life come true. Similarly, this city gives opportunity to even the backward classes waiting for development and takes it forward. This spirit of Surat shall become a great strength in building a developed India in this Azadi Ka Amrit Kaal.

    The city of Surat has faced natural calamities like epidemics, floods in the past and turning those calamities into opportunities, the city has bounced back, Surat adopted a model for this development two decades ago. This model stands for PPP and Public Private Partnership. But, among these three P’s, Surat has shown how the branding of any city is done in every sector by adopting a new model of development by adopting the 4th P of the People, he added.

    Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi said that many types of images of Surat are before us. ‘Jaman’ of Surat is famous. Surat has now established its identity as a bridge city. With it, first Diamond City, Green City, Textile City, Clean City and Smart City have been created. Central and state governments are encouraging the use of electric vehicles. 25 charging stations have started in Surat city. 500 more stations will be started. 80 percent of the public transport vehicles in Surat will be electric in the near future. So Surat will also be known as Electric Vehicle City. The city of Surat is working to connect all with the confluence of humanity, nationality and prosperity.

    Surat’s textile and iron industry is providing employment to many families. Now with the completion of the DreamCity project, Surat will develop as a diamond trade center across the world. The central government has given approval for setting up a mega cluster of power looms in Surat. As a result, problems related to pollution will be solved and traders will benefit. Along with this, a new National Logistics Policy has been announced by the Central Government. As a result, the business of Surat will benefit more. The Ghogha-Hazira RoPax ferry has increased the convenience of transportation with multimodal connectivity. This has improved the connectivity of priority agricultural areas of Saurashtra like Bhavnagar and Amreli with Surat. With the completion of Hazira terminal, the agriculture sector shall immensely benefit, said the prime minister.

    He further added that Surat’s textile market is well connected to Kashi and Northeast Uttar Pradesh. For easy handling of goods, a train is going to be started from Surat to Kashi. He appreciated Surat saying that the city has done a good job of providing housing to the poor. By constructing 80 lakh housing units for the urban poor in Surat, the slum dwellers have been given better shelter and their standard of living has improved.

    Despite repeated requests to the then central government, Surat was not given an airport. Now this double engine government has also given a metro train project with a modern airport in Surat. Keeping in view the public needs, our government not only approves various projects quickly, but also completes those projects quickly, he further added.

    Expressing his happiness, the Prime Minister said that on the auspicious occasion of Navratri, it has been a privilege to be a part of launching development works, sports culture and faith-related planning works that increase the infrastructural facilities on the land of Gujarat and to increase the pride of Gujarat. It is a matter of joy that the benefits of development in Gujarat are reaching every door.

    Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel said that to realize Prime Minister’s dream of developed India in Azadi Ka Amrit Kaal, all-round development of cities is inevitable for ease of living. Cities in Gujarat are being made modern and world-class through Smart City, Amrit Project and Swachh Bharat Project. Whenever Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi comes to Gujarat, he gives the gift of development. Despite the festival of Navratri, the arrival of the Prime Minister has created a Diwali-like atmosphere in Surat.

    Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel thanked the Prime Minister for the decision to extend the scheme of providing free ration to 80 crore poor under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana.

    Chief Minister congratulated Surat for securing second place in cleanliness drive in the country saying that after the Tapi floods, Surat has taken the path of development under the visionary guidance of the Prime Minister and the then Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi and has never looked back.

    Stating that Gujarat is getting the benefit of the double engine government, he added, “By the year-2023, 80% e-buses will be introduced for public transport service in Surat”. Early connectivity of commercial hub Surat with agricultural hub Saurashtra through Hazira RoPax Terminal will benefit the trade and agriculture sector. Stating that the construction of Biodiversity Park will prevent water pollution and also achieve the objective of green city, he said that the government is continuously moving forward with the goal of making clean city Surat a green city. Surat is becoming a model city with holistic development.

    183 villages of Surat district have received the gift of 4 water supply schemes. 98 percent implementation of Nal Se Jal Yojana has been successfully accomplished by Gujarat. The scheme will be completed 100 percent soon by the state government. Diamond Bourse and Dream City, which gave a new identity to Surat, are the visionary dream projects of the Prime Minister. The Chief Minister further added that due to the progressing Diamond Bourse project at Khajod, the prominence of Surat’s diamond industry is also increasing.
