PM inaugurates Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda through video conference

    Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi today dedicated to the nation an Ayurveda teaching and research institute to mark celebration of the Ayurveda day in Jamnagar that will offer a range of courses and forge inter-disciplinary collaborations to give a contemporary thrust to the ancient medicine system.

    The newly formed institute ITRA has been accorded with the status of an “institute of national importance” by the PM. He highlighted the rich legacy of traditional medicine that India has been blessed with. This has been recognized worldwide, more so during the times of the global pandemic of COVID-19 for its beneficial and health and wellness endowing supreme properties.

    Expressing his gratitude to the Director General of the World Health Organization, Ted Ross, for selecting India from all over the world for the Global Center for Traditional Medicine by WHO, Mr. Modi said that India has a great heritage in the form of Ayurveda connected with health. India’s traditional systems of medicine have amply demonstrated to the world the power of Ayurveda. It is now important to develop scientific evidence-based research structures to integrate with the modern knowledge repositories to move ahead in the 21st century. Integrative medicine is the need of the hour, stressed Mr. Modi.

    The Ministry of AYUSH is proving to be an important part of the national health policy today, and the mythical and modern medical world is being coordinated in India. Of the wellness centers functioning in the country, twelve and a half thousand centers are based on Ayurveda alone. The Prime Minister also acknowledged that Ayurveda has a major role to play in controlling corona all over India.

    The Prime Minister pointed out that during the Corona period the demand for Ayurvedic products has increased rapidly all over the world. India will become a center of wellness for the world by focusing more on preventive health care and wellness with affordable and effective treatment.

    Gujarat Chief Minister Mr. Vijay Rupani said that, Samudra manthan (sea was churned by divine power and demonic power) from which Lord Dhanvantari was emerged. Similarly, on Dhanvantari Day, the Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA) has also been emerged today.

    Governor of Gujarat Mr. Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister Mr. Vijay Rupani, Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Nitin Patel, Union Minister of State for AYUSH Mr. Shripad Nayak, Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot and Governor of Rajasthan Shri Kalraj Mishra participated through video conferencing in the inauguration of ITRA.

    Mr. Rupani said that Ayurveda has been beneficial for every person of the society, considering which the then Chief Minister of Gujarat Mr. Narendra Modi has made great progress in the field of Ayurveda today as a result of his sincere efforts to promote Ayurveda University along with the development of Ayurveda.

    Mr. Rupani said that that this Ayurveda University in Jamnagar, the temple of Lord Dhanvantari, is today being established as a national level health institution. Which is a matter of pride. The status of “Institute of National Importance” conferred on AIIMS at Rajkot and this Ayurveda University at Jamnagar is a great gift from the Government of India to Gujarat in the field of health.

    Union Minister of State for AYUSH Mr. Shripad Nayak said that, Modernization of Ayurveda education is need of hour. A number of steps have been taken in the last few years to make it a reality, under which the decision of the government to declare ITRA at Jamnagar as an institution of national importance will be a historic step for the field of Ayurvedic education.

    The Minister said that the efforts of the Central Government – Ministry of AYUSH to save the people from the Corona epidemic during the Covid-19 epidemic have proved to be very helpful.

    On the occasion Minister of Agriculture and Transport Mr. R.C. Faldu, Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies Mr.  Dharmendrasinh Jadeja, MP Poonamben Madam, Bhavnagar MP Bhartiben Shiyal, Former Minister Vasuben Trivedi, ChairmanNational Sweepers Commission, MLA , Jamnagar Mayor, Secretary of State for Health Dr, Jayanti Ravi, Secretary in charge of Jamnagar, Director of Gujarat Ayurveda University were present.
