Gandhinagar, Thursday: Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has recently informed at the Cabinet meeting that the Rs.3,875-crore project to carry one million-acre feet Narmada waters to Kutch district will soon be given administrative approval. And with the work on phase-1 expected to begin by December will get approval for phase-2.

Meanwhile, people of Kutch, including MP, MLAs, prominent citizens, local office-bearers, sants and mahants warmly welcomed the Chief Minister.

Mr. Rupani said that farmers have the strength and the Government is committed to stand by the side of the farmers to take water for irrigation purpose to Kutch. This government took several steps like renewable energy park and desalination plant for solutions to problems for sustainable development with the mantra of ‘Sauno Saath, Sauno Vikas’ since Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

He said that his government is committed to make ‘Panidar Gujarat’, brimming with water, with planned projects which the previous Congress government did not do in the past. His government has laid 550 km long pipeline to carry Narmada water from Kevadia to Kutch with the help of Sufalam Sufalam Yojna, etc. He called for judicious use of precious water.

Deputy Chief Minister Nitinbhai Patel said that Gujarat Government has never deducted even a rupee from the Budgetary demands for carrying Narmada waters to remote areas of the state. The BJP Government in Gujarat under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi working at target to take Narmada waters to every corner of the state. The progressive farmers of Kutch are experts in drip irrigation.

He said the new generation should know Gujarat’s march to progress with respect to Narmada River from 1960 to 2020. Earlier only cotton in dry regions grown, now even mango.

Minister of State for Tourism Vasanbhai Ahir said the Chief Minister has won the hearts of Kuchchi people by giving in-principle approval to the Rs.3,875-crore project to carry Narmada waters to the Kutch district. He said the people of Kutch will celebrate coming Kuchchi New Year ‘Asadhi Bij’ by cooking ‘lapsi’ (a sweet dish) in every home.

The State Water Resources Department earlier made a detailed presentation of the project which aimed at serving 3.80-lakh people in 96 villages of six talukas to irrigate 2.35-lakh acres and fill up 38 reservoirs in the district.

Those present at the event included Member of Parliament Vinodbhai Chavda. MLAs Virendra Singh, Pradyuman Singh, Nimaben, Maltiben. District Panchayat President Parulben among others.
