Let’s celebrate the festival in a way that not even a single bird’s life is lost: Chief Minister

    Chief Minister:-

    • To take care of every living being is the responsibility of the government
    • Let us also take care that festivals and celebrations do not turn out to be fatal to any living being
    • Various departments including animal husbandry, forest department, corporation and voluntary organizations will participate to make Karuna Abhiyan a success
    • This year, more than 700 doctors and organizations and about 8000 volunteers – will provide their services  in Karuna Abhiyan
    • So far more than 70 thousand birds have been treated under Karuna Abhiyan

    Gandhinagar, Friday: Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel provided guidance to the cooperative organizations and workers of the departments including forest and animal husbandry in the statewide 10- day Karuna Abhiyan for saving the lives of birds injured by kite- thread during the festival of Uttarayan.

    The Chief Minister clearly stated that the need to take care of every living being is the responsibility of the government. Karuna Abhiyan is an excellent example of this responsibility of the government, he added.

    Chief Minister said, We all celebrate festivals but we should also take care that these festivals do not become fatal to any living being.  He further added that we all should be concerned about protecting  all living beings.

    While applauding the social service organizations and voluntary organizations Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel  said that,It is commendable that the social service organizations and NGOs of the state are coming forward and doing life-saving work in this Karuna Abhiyan.

    Karuna Abhiyan is organized on a large scale to prioritize saving the lives of injured birds during Makar Sankranti in Gujarat. Jivdaya organizations across the state have made this campaign a success. The Forest Department, Animal Husbandry Department, Municipal Corporation are also actively involved in this campaign to save the lives of injured birds.

    On this occasion, Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel also inaugurated the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre  at Bilasiya in Daskroi.

    This newly constructed rehabilitation center provides all kinds of facilities for the treatment for injured animals as well as the rehabilitation of animals.

    Spread over an area of 23 thousand square meters, this rehabilitation center has been prepared at an   estimated cost of Rs. 2.72 crores.

    Additional Chief Secretary, Forest Department Shri Arunkumar Solanki on this occasion said that, This is an exceptional campaign to save injured birds during the festival of Uttarayan  in the state.

    Animal Husbandry, Forest Department, Municipal Corporations and various voluntary organizations have participated to make this 10- day campaign a success which will be held from January 10th  to 20th.

    To ensure that no bird is killed during Makar Sankranti festival in the state, He also appealed to voluntary organizations to participate alongwith animal husbandry department, forest department in making necessary arrangements including ICU, ambulance, 1962 helpline for treatment of animals and birds for pre-post treatment of birds.

    It is worth mentioning here that, This ten-day ‘Karuna Abhiyan’ is being conducted in the state since 2017 during Uttarayan festival to save injured birds from kite- threads and to provide treatment to injured birds.

    So far more than 70,000 birds have been treated under this campaign. This year, more than 700 doctors ,more than 8000 volunteers and more than 700 organizations are going to provide service in this campaign.

Under this campaign, helpline number 1962 and WhatsApp number 8320002000 have been announced by the state government.Also 24 hour helpline number 7600009845/46 has also been announced by the Ahmedabad Forest Department, through which one can connect and reach them.

    Forest and Environment Minister Shri Mulu Bera, Mayor of Ahmedabad Shri Kirit Parmar, MLA Shri Amit Shah, Standing Committee Chairman Shri Hitesh Barot, Animal Husbandry Secretary Shri Bhimjiani, officials of various voluntary organizations including Animal Husbandry Department and Forest Department were present on this occasion.
