Gandhinagar, Thursday: Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi declared the 36th National Games open at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad today. The country’s biggest sports festival got off to a colorful start at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad amid the razzle of Garba of Navratri festival in Gujarat.
While inaugurating the National Games, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi said,The progress of the country and respect on the global scale is directly related to sports. Youth play an important role in nation building while sports remain the main source of energy and quality of life among the youth.
The Prime Minister further said, globally developed countries are also leading in sports and medal winning charts in international games. A player’s victory and strong performance on the field of play paves the way for victory in other fields as well. The power of sports plays an important role in building the identity of a country. Highlighting the progress made in the field of sports, the Prime Minister said that 8 years ago, players from India used to participate in less than a hundred international events. On the contrary, the number of international events that players from India participate in has gone up to 300 now. 8 years ago the players of India used to go to play 20-25 games. Now players from India go to participate in about 40 different sports. Number of medals as well as India’s aura are increasing today, the Prime Minister added.
The Prime Minister said, Even during the difficult period of Corona that the morale of the sports persons was not allowed to ebb. We worked for sports with a sports spirit. Prepared in mission mode for years through schemes like TOPS. Today, from the success of the big players to the future creation of the new players, TOPS is playing a big role. He recalled that India gave its best Olympics performance this year at Tokyo Olympics. Similarly, the Thomas Cup victory by the badminton team brought fresh cheers. He also praised the achievement of para-athletes in various international events. He expressed happiness on the equal and strong participation of female athletes in this resurgence.
The Prime Minister further said that in the last 8 years, the confidence of the youth to realize their dreams has increased. The government is no longer just making plans for sports, but is moving forward step by step with the youth. As a result, players are getting more resources and opportunities.The budget for the sports sector has increased by 70 percent in the last 8 years. Fit India and Khelo India have become mass movements today.The Prime Minister added.
Throwing light on the history of India’s civilization and culture, the Prime Minister said that Sports have been a part of India’s legacy and growth journey for thousands of years. In the Azadi Ka Amrit Kaal, the country is reviving this tradition with pride in its heritage. The Prime Minister further added that the efforts and enthusiasm of the country are not limited to just one sport, but Indian sports like ‘Kalaripayattu’ and Yogasan are also gaining importance. I am glad that these games have been included in big events like National Games.
Referring to the Ahmedabad drone show, the Prime Minister said, It became a gratified event for every Indian to see the kind of outstanding and magnificent show that was held in Ahmedabad. There is no doubt that the best use of drone technology will take Gujarat and India to new global heights.
Referring to the Sardar Patel Sports Complex, the Prime Minister said,The facilities for many sports like football, hockey, boxing, basketball, kabaddi are available simultaneously in this complex which will be a model for the entire country.
More than 7000 athletes from 36 states/Union Territories of the country, more than 50 lakh students from more than 35,000 colleges-universities participated directly in the National Games and realized the anthem of the 36th National Games ‘Judega India, Jitega India’.The Prime Minister said.
Prime Minister said that, The scenes, images and atmosphere witnessed on the opening ceremony of the National Games are memorable. At the world’s largest stadium, such a young country in the world, and the biggest sports festival in the country is amazing and unique, the energy is also amazing. The Prime Minister congratulated Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel and the entire team of Gujarat for organizing the National Games in a very short period of time.

Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel said that, Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Gujarat has completed the grand planning of the 36th National Games in a short span of three months.
Usually it takes years to organize such a big event but as a result of the work culture developed by Shri Narendra in Gujarat, organization the National Games was completed in a short span of just three months. As the National Games are being held in the country after seven years, all efforts have been made to make the event memorable for the players, he added.
Chief Minister said, On the occasion of the inauguration of the 36th National Games, the enthusiasm of India’s youth can be heard in the world’s largest cricket stadium, Shri Narendra Modi Stadium.He said.
The 36th National Games will prove to be a great initiative towards strengthening the Prime Minister’s spirit of ‘Ek Bharat-Shreshta Bharat’.
He further added that due to the vision of the Prime Minister, world class sports infrastructure and sporting culture has developed in Gujarat.
Chief Minister said, Thanks to the sports culture started by the Prime Minister since 2010, today Gujarat’s innovative initiative of organizing Rural Olympics and Special Sports Mahakumbh for the Divyang’s has now expanded to a wider scale. In this regard, he further said that Gujarat has become a policy driven state for the development of any sector.
A sports university will be operational in Vadodara. Not only that, just a few months ago Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched Gujarat’s sports policy.
On this occasion Chief Minister requested the sportsperson participating in the National Games were r to enjoy Gujarat’s culture, food and Navratri festival. He also extended his best wishes to the player for their bright and successful future.

On this occasion, ‘Jai Jai Garvi Gujarat ni Gatha’ was presented by more than 750 artists. On the opening ceremony of the National Games started in Gujarat, there was joy and enthusiasm among the players, athletes, spectators, cadets of NCC, volunteers from all corners of the country and the state.
In this opening ceremony Governor of Gujarat Shri Acharya Devvrat, Union Sports Minister Shri Anurag Thakur, Union Minister of State for Sports Shri Nisith Pramanik, Union Minister of State for Railways and Textiles Darshana Jardosh, Navsari MP Shri C.R. Patil, Speaker of Gujarat Legislative Assembly Smt. Dr. Nima Acharya, Minister of State for Home and Sports Shri Harsh Sanghvi, Shri Raghavji Patel, Shri Pradeep Parmar, Shri Jagdish Panchal, Manisha Vakil, Shri Rajendra Trivedi, Nimisha Suthar, Ministers including Ahmedabad Mayor Shri Kirit Parmar were present. Many champion sportspersons and well-known personalities of the sports world Neeraj Chopra, PV Sindhu, Mirabai Chanu, Anju Bobby George, Gagan Narang were present to boost everyone’s enthusiasm.
