Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani launched the statewide Kisan Kalyan Karyakram to contact farmers-villagers at 244 taluka headquarters through SATCOM from Mahatma Mandir here today to mark former Prime Minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayeeji’s birthday as Good Governance Day.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that that the government had worked hard to make the farmers ‘Jagat-no-Taat’ in true sense during the last two decades through agricultural prosperity, making villages, towns, state and nation prosperous.

The occasion was Gujarat Government’s seven steps, ‘Saat Pagla Khedut Kalyan’, including Mukhya Mantri Pak Sangrah Yojna, Kisan Parivahan Yojna, Cow Maintenance Expenses to farmers engaged in natural farming, assistive kits for making Jivamrit, umbrella to small retailers to save commodities from rain, smart handrule kits, subsidy for barbed wire as symbol of farming as a profession.

He explained as to how the BJP government provided unique boost to agricultural revolution in the state during the last 20-25 years, while the previous Congress governments deprived farmers of water, electricity and seeds reducing them to penury.

Mr. Rupani provided assistance-benefits worth Rs 1,120.72 crore to 52.67 lakh beneficiaries on one day. He flagged off 51 mobile animal dispensaries, each mobile dispensary covering ten villages, and also 51 small goods carriage vans.

He said that it was because of Mr. Narendra Modi’s initiatives in Gujarat that Narmada Project was realised, taking Narmada waters to north Gujarat and Saurashtra and Kutch region. The BJP governments implemented Sujalam Sufalam Yojna, Narmada Canals and SAUNI lift irrigation project to fill up 115 reservoirs.

Referring to the farmers’ agitation, he asked the parties shedding crocodile’s tears as to why they did not allow complete the sluice gates at the SSP dam on the Narmada for seven years. Whereas, Mr. Narendra Modi approved the sluice gates within 17 days of his coming to power at the Centre. The BJP government at the Centre is for ‘Job for every hand, water for every field’.

The Chief Minister further stated that the farmers of Gujarat have been supplied sufficient waters, seeds, fertilizers and electricity to enable them to quench the hunger of the world. We have introduced ‘Kisan Suryoday Yojna so that the farmers make day farming and do not require to make troublesome night farming. At present, we are supplying electricity in day-time to 1055 villages. In next three years every village of Gujarat will be covered under this scheme. We want to create a situation whereby the farmers work during the day and rest at night.

Criticizing the political parties indulging into ongoing farmers’ agitation, Mr. Rupani said that they (political parties) were out to oppose the revolutionary reforms, which were never made in history, of the Modi Government due to fearing their political existence.

He categorically stated that the political parties, which have joined the farmers’ agitation, had never purchased farm produces at the supportive prices during their tenures of ruling.

The Gujarat Government has purchased farm produces worth more than 15,000-Crore at the MSP rates. Not only this, the state government has given relief package of Rs. 3,700-Cr to farmers for their farm produces as a compensation against the damages caused by calamities such as cyclone, unseasonal rainfalls and others. The state government is also paying the entire premium of the crop insurances for the poor farmers, Mr. Rupani said.
