Gandhinagar, Thursday: Gujarat Chief Minister Mr. Bhupendra Patel while inaugurating the 12th edition of Garib Kalyan Mela statewide from Vanbandhu area Dahod expressed a clear view that Garib Kalyan Mela has given self-esteem and new strength to the poor.

In this context, he said that Prime Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi came up with this innovative idea of this Garib Kalyan Mela in 2009-10 for economic empowerment of the poor.

He added that under his inspiration and guidance, so far in Gujarat 1 crore 47 lakh needy people have been directly provided with assistance of Rs. 26 thousand 6 hundred crore through 1530 Garib Kalyan Melas organised under 11 editions. In Dahod’s Garib Kalyan Mela, more than 68500 beneficiaries have been given an estimated assistance of Rs. 380 crore in this 12th edition of Garib Kalyan Mela.

CM gave a detailed account of the Garib Kalyan Mela, he said that Garib Kalyan Mela is organised to not only for the purpose of providing government assistance but also for the empowerment of the poor with the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendrabhai. He said that under the guidance of the Prime Minister, this empowerment campaign will be intensified to make the poor self-reliant and realize the resolve of a self-reliant India from a self-reliant Gujarat.

CM said that this is not a price of mercy, benevolence or help, but a service to give to those who are entitled to it. The whole system has been motivated to find the poor with adequate vigilance and ensure that genuinely impoverished are benefitted under this.

CM firmly stated that in the name of the poor whoever have baked their political bread for years, kept the poor as vote bank politics alive, they do not understand the development driven politics adopted by Prime Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi. Since the last two and a half decades in Gujarat and from 2013 onwards at national level, a new era of development politics has begun.

Shri Narendrabhai has truly empowered the poor. Jandhan Yojana, Ujjawala Yojana for women, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for the poor, Vima Suraksha Yojana and Ayushyaman Bharat Yojana have lifted the poor above the poverty line and gifted them a life of dignity.

For over six decades of independence, the rulers have kept the poor as a means of filling the ballot boxes. CM also said that the Bharatiya Janata Party under the leadership of Shri Narendrabhai has launched a campaign for the upliftment of the poor and deprived and has allocated a budget of crores for the welfare of the poor.

CM also said that the Sevayajna-Garib Kalyan Mela of Empowerment of Poor, started under the direction of the Prime Minister, have become a successful case study for studious researchers of Pro-Poor Governance.

Minister of State for Panchayats Shri Brijeshbhai Merja said that the state government is working with the commitment to quench the hunger. The 12th phase of Prime Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi-inspired Garib Kalyan Mela will also prove important in uplifting the poor.

He added that 288 youngsters from Dahod got employment during the good governance week by the employment department. While more than 1000 youngsters have got employment through 1000 rojgar melas held in the district. Besides, 13 thousand vacancies are being filled in 19 cadres of Panchayat department in the state. All the posts of Taluka Development Officer have also been filled in Dahod district.

Dahod MP Shri Jaswant Singh Bhabhor said that the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel is taking comprehensive welfare measures for the upliftment of the poor. In order to alleviate the inconvenience caused to the citizens, he has taken more than 200 decisions in 121 days and created administrative simplification. Matters such as extension of income proof, exemption from affidavit are examples of this. They are constantly concerned for the development of tribal areas.

CM was welcomed by various social, service oriented organizations, office bearers of the organization.

Initially Collector of Dahod Harshit Gosavi while welcoming everyone said that Dahod has been included in the Smart City by the Central Government. Under the Smart City project, 26 different projects have been undertaken for the overall development of the city. Out of which 8 works of Rs 187 crore have been completed. Various development works are in progress at a cost of Rs. 478 crore.

District Development Officer Ms. Neha Kumari gave a vote of thanks. On this occasion Whip Shri Ramesh Katara, District Panchayat President Smt. Sheetalben Vaghela, Former Minister and MLA Shri Bachubhai Khabad, Shaileshbhai Bhabhor, Chief Secretary Shri Pankaj Kumar, Incharge Secretary Shri Rajkumar Beniwal, Deputy Range Inspector General of Police Shri M. S. Bharada, District President Shri Shankarbhai Amaliyar, Pradesh mahamantri Shri Bhargavbhai Bhatt, beneficiaries and citizens including leaders, office bearers, officials were present in large numbers.
