The Sardar Sarovar Rehabilitation Agency has established settlements at various locations. Out of these, 80 settlements are slated to be integrated with the original village

Incorporating 80 settlements across six districts—Bharuch, Narmada, Chhota Udepur, Vadodara, Kheda, and Panchmahal

Gandhinagar, 18 November 2023: Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel has made a significant decision to merge the 80 settlements, established for the resettlement of landowners (Khatedars) affected by the Sardar Sarovar Dam’s construction, with their nearby native villages.

These settlements, constructed at different locations by the Sardar Sarovar Resettlement Agency, aim to provide a new home for those whose lands were submerged due to the dam’s construction. Physical facilities such as residential houses, drinking water facilities, roads, common plots, schools, hospitals, etc., have been thoughtfully provided for the affected residents in these settlements.

The decision to merge these settlements with their nearest native villages comes after receiving representations from the State ‘Panchayat Gram Gruh Nirman’ and ‘Gramin Vikas Vibhag,’ which have been approved by Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel.

This move not only resolves a long-pending issue related to these colonies but also brings about positive outcomes. According to the Chief Minister’s decision, a total of 80 settlements across districts—9 in Bharuch, 14 in Chotaudepur, 13 in Narmada, 38 in Vadodara, 5 in Panchmahal, and 1 in Kheda—will be integrated with their original villages.

As these settlements merge with the original villages, residents will gain access to various services provided by the Gram Panchayat. Additionally, this integration offers an opportunity for active participation in the decision-making process of the Gram Panchayat, fostering greater coordination and interaction in social customs and practices.
