Union Home Minister lays foundation stone of the Olympic level sports complex in Naranpura, Ahmedabad

Developmental works of Rs. 8613 crores completed in 3 years

Gandhinagar, Sunday: Union Home Minister laid foundation stone of the Olympic level sports complex in Naranpura area of Ahmedabad to be built at a cost of Rs. 632 crores. He expressed his commitment to make the entire Gandhinagar constituency one of the most developed constituency of the nation by 2024. This land in naranpura, which falls in his parliamentary constituency, was left unused since years.

Union HM said that Prime Minister has given an immediate response to the proposal made to him to provide opportunities to the young players by setting up a state-of-the-art sports complex here and sanctioned Rs.600 crores. He will personally monitor the entire operation of the sports complex for its timely completion in the next 30 months and the complex will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister. He gave details of the completion of development works worth Rs. 8676 crore in the last three years in the entire Gandhinagar constituency.

In the last 3 years, development works worth Rs. 8613 crore were done in Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency which include Rs. 1984 crore in Ghatlodia Assembly, Rs. 1303 crore in Naranpura assembly, Rs. 561 crore in Vejalpur assembly, 634 crore in Sabarmati Assembly, Rs. 800 crore in Sanand assembly, Rs. 2800 crore in Gandhinagar North Assembly and Rs 531 crore in Kalol assembly.

This sports complex will be a boon for the children of schools without grounds in areas including Naranpura, Ghatlodia, Vejalpur, Ellisbridge. In the coming days, not only will the children be able to come and play sports in this complex, but the talented athletes will also be able to participate in the Olympic Games.

Union Sports Minister Shri Anurag Thakur, Union Minister of State Shri Nishith Pramanik, Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, Minister of State for Sports Shri Harsh Sanghvi joined on the occasion.

Shri Shah said that I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Ministry of Sports of the Government of India and especially to the Minister Shri Anurag Thakur for this sports complex. Prime Minister Shri Narendrabhai has made many efforts to make Ahmedabad an international name in the field of sports. He expressed confidence that through this sports complex, the sportspersons will get a platform and facilities and as a result, Gujarat will also become number one in sports.

Shri Shah further said that under the leadership of Narendra Bhai, India has become a secure, prosperous, educated and proud country. During the eight years of Narendra Bhai’s rule, India has come a long way in competition of the world.

The world’s largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad and the Sardar Patel Sports Complex being built on the river bank next to it as well as the sports complex of this Naranpura will be completed, then we want to build three more sports complexes in the city to enable Ahmedabad to host the Olympics.

Union Sports Minister Shri Anurag Thakur said that the foundation stone of the sports complex which is going to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 632 crores is a historic moment. As a result of the imagination and foresight of Prime Minister Shri Narendrabhai Modi and Shri Amitabhai Shah, this sports complex will greatly strengthen the sports ecosystem and sports infrastructure of Gujarat and India, which will benefit millions of sportspersons in the state.

World-class facilities will be available for players at the newly constructed sports complex. In addition, all the facilities of fitness and sports for the general public will be made available in this complex. Filled with world-class facilities, the complex could host and participate in future Olympic-level events.

A successful sports platform like “Khelo India” has been set up in the field of sports by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Bhai Modi and the BJP Government, As part of which “Khelo India University Games” and “Khelo India Youth Games” give a unique recognition to the talents of the players from all over the country.

Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel said that today is a happy occasion for the sports lovers of Gujarat. Because a new feather is being added to the sports ecosystem of Gujarat today. The sports culture of the country and the state is going to get a new direction due to the Olympic level sports complex to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 632 crore in Naranpura area of ​​Ahmedabad. This type of sports centre is going to be ready for hosting an Olympic level game.

The international sports complex will have all the facilities like Aquatic Complex, Community Sports Centre, Centre for Sports Excellence, Fit India Zone as well as outdoor sports, CM added.

Talking about Khel Mahakumbh, the Chief Minister said that Khel Mahakumbh started in the year 2010 under the guidance of Shri Narendra Modi has reached national and international level today. Today Khel Mahakumbh has become Khelo India. He added that the state government is also providing assistance to the players through various sports schemes.

Minister of State for Sports Shri Harsh Sanghvi said that, before 2002, the budget of sports sector in Gujarat was only Rs. 2.50 crore. Today, Gujarat is counted among the 10 most important sports states in the country. When Shri Narendrabhai Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, he first started Khel Maha Kumbh for the youth. This year in 2022, about 56 lakh youth of the state participated in Khel Mahakumbh.

Shri Sanghvi further added that the state government has introduced a new sports policy for the purpose of promoting youth in the field of sports. I am expressing my gratitude on behalf of the youth of the state for the world class modern sports complex in Naranpura.
