Vice President inaugurates annual winter festival Rann Utsav-2019 in Kutch

    Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu during his two-day visit to Gujarat today inaugurated the annual winter festival Rann Utsav-2019 at Dhrdo village near Bhuj amidst the vast stretches of white sand in the Rann of Kutch.

    He was welcomed at Dhordo by Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, Tourism Minister Jawahar Chavda and Minister of State for Tourism Vasanbhai Ahir and a number of leaders and senior officers.

    Impressed by the Rann Utsav, Mr. Naidu said it not only displayed the arts, crafts, culture and natural beauty of Kutch district but that of the entire state of Gujarat. The state has established its unique identity in the global map. It is sure to promote socio-economic development of the region.

    Mr. Naidu described Gujarat as Karma Bhumi of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel, depicting glimpse of India’s freedom struggle from Sabarmati and Kochrab Ashrams. It has become over a period of time the Teerth Bhumi, a pilgrimage centre, thanks to relentless efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ever since he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

    Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said that the Rann of Kutch has become an international tourist centre due to the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Rann Utsav contributed to the socio-economic development of the region. Over 15-lakh tourists had so far visited Rann Utsav, he said. Over 100 artistes from troupes from Jamnagar, Nadiad, Dangs, Porbandar and Gandhinagar presented a spectacle of variety entertainment programme, led by singers Shyamal-Soumil and Arti Munshi.

    During his stay at Dhordo village, Mr. Naidu enjoyed the sunset, had a joyride on a camel cart, exchanged pleasantries with the coachman Mustaq, experienced firsthand the tourism  promotion tagline of the Rann Utsav in India’s westernmost district of Kutch – ‘Kutch nahi dekha to kuchh nahi dekha’.

    He unveiled Vision Document 2020-2025 prepared by the students of Sidhpur-based State Institute of Hotel Management headed by Project Director Nisha Sharma for Gujarat Tourism, promoted by Tourism Academy.
    Mr. Naidu visited the national award winning Gateway to Rann Utsav in the Tent City at Dhordo, developed by the Dhordo Gram Panchayat Vikas Trust, envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. Village Panchayat Sarpanch Miyanhusain Mutva explained the journey of the Vikas Trust.

    Mr. Naidu had a feel of the typical ‘Bhunga’ thatched huts. He listened to the folksongs and finer notes of local musical instruments, sitting in makeshift cots. Others present at Dhordo included MP Vinodbhai Chavda, MLAs Nimaben Acharya, Virendrasinh Jadeja, Maltiben Maheshwari and Pradymnsinh Jadeja, Tourism Secretary

    Collector M. Nagrajan, West Kutch SP Saurabh Tolambia, DDO Prabhav Joshi and others.
