Chief Minister visits world famous Tarnetar Mela in Surendranagar

    Gandhinagar, Thursday: Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel during his visit to world famous Tarnetar Mela(fair) of Surendranagar district said that, Every year more than 1500 melas(fairs) are organized in Gujarat and more than 400 in Saurashtra-Kutch, realizing the importance of fairs in folk life and rural culture, the then Chief Minister of Gujarat and current  Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi implemented a policy to promote fairs including folk fairs and cultural fairs.

    Fairs serve to preserve and nurture the tradition of our diverse and multifaceted folk culture. While the government is constantly working towards providing better facilities in melas while maintaining their real essence.

    To make the place where Tarnetar Mela(fair) is organized to make it more eye appealing for the visitors various measures are being taken including beautification of the lake. With an aim that youth would be more engaged and remain involved with melas and to maintain the rich tradition of melas Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi started the Rural Olympics in the year 2004.

    Also the idea behind this concept was that the youth get an opportunity to showcase their talent pertaining to sports at the village level and a platform is available for them to display their sports skills.

    Appreciating the organizers for organizing traditional games such as Langdi, Matka Daud, Khand na Ladoo khawani spardha, Dordakud also sports games including Daud, Volleyball, Kud, Kusti,Kabaddi Chief Minister said that across the globe if there is any such mela held at village-level which is world renowned it is Tarnetar Mela. The Chief Minister congratulated the Gram Panchayat for beautifully  organizing this world famous fair.

    Stating that the government is continuously working to ensure that the benefits of the facilities and welfare schemes of the government reach the people, he said, Since Shri Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister, Gujarat has been benefiting from double engine government. As a result, today Gujarat has become the growth engine of the country in all sectors like health, education, energy.

    There were lot of issues pertaining to facilities of roads, water and electricity In the past in Gujarat but as a result of the visionary planning of Shri Narendra Modi during his tenure as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, infrastructure facilities including paved roads, water and electricity have been made available in every village in Gujarat today.

    Gujarat was made the growth engine  of the entire country by our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi now our aim is to take Gujarat to greater heights at a fast pace.

    Expressing happiness of having an opportunity to worship Lord Trinetreshwar on the holy day of Rishi Panchami   Chief Minister prayed that, May Gujarat continue to achieve new heights of development.

    On this occasion, Union Minister Shri Mahendra Munjapara in his address said that a large number of people participated in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign started and inspired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and hoisted tricolors on their houses, shops etc. He also thanked everyone for showing their support to Prime Minister’s call.

    Referring to the dances presented in the Tarnetar Mela and the competitions organized for Rural Olympics, he said that the organizing of such Mela is continuously encouraged by the government.

    Speaking about various melas like Junagadh, Madhavpur Minister of State Shri Arvind Raiyani said that in modern times melas are very essential to strengthen the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat’ in the society. It is very essential that such programs are held so that the new generation can develop the spirit of social harmony through such melas.

    An MoU was also signed with unacademy in the presence of Chief Minister so that the students of the district can prepare well for the competitive exams free of cost.

    At the beginning of the program Chief Minister was honoured with a traditional Pagadi, Sword and Umbrella. Besides a Bhavya Raas was also presented before the Chief Minister by Panchal Cultural Group Thangadh.

    District Development Officer Shri P.N. Makwana gave the welcome speech and Sarpanch Shri delivered  vote of thanks.

    Before the program,the Chief Minister visited the exhibition of Rural Olympics and Information Department and offered prayers to Lord Trinetreshwar Mahadev and prayed for the well-being of the people.

    During this visit of the Chief Minister, Forest and Environment Minister Shri Kiritsinh Rana, Labour and Employment Minister Shri Brijesh Merja, District In-charge Minister Shri Deva Malam, Vadhwan MLA Shri Dhanji Patel, District Collector Shri K.C. Sampat, District Development Officer Shri P.N. Makwana, Superitendent of Police Shri  Haresh Dudhat including other dignitaries were present.
