CM inaugurates 9th Agri Asia Exhibition in the presence of Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare

Chief Minister of the state Mr. Vijay Rupani inaugurated the 9th Agri Asia Exhibition in the presence of Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Mr. Narendrasinh Tomar at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar.

Addressing audience during the event, the Chief Minister urged farmers to practice drip irrigation for achieving better output. In this regard, he said that the state government provides 70% subsidy to the farmers for drip irrigation.  Gujarat has been a forerunner in agricultural production and farmers can cultivate crops and vegetables based on the requirements of international market for better returns. Farmers in Banaskantha and tribal belt who have cultivated dates, pomegranate and cashewnuts have prospered as a result of the same.

The CM further added that the state government is constantly on its toes to double the income of farmers by 2022 as envisioned by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi.  Talking about irrigation facilities, the CM said that the waters of Narmada have reached to Saurashtra and North Gujarat which has enabled farmers to cultivate 3 crops at a time. At the same time, he appealed farmers to join hands with the government in initiatives such as Sujalam Sufalam Jal Abhiyan, SAUNI Yojana which will lead to the fulfillment of ‘Har Haath Ko Kaam’(Work for every pair of hands) and Har Khet to Paani (Water for every farm). The CM highlighted about the success of Jyotigram Yojana and affirmed that the Suryashakti Kisan Yojana will show positive results.

The state government has purchased crops that amount to more than Rs.9000 crores at Minimum Support Price.

Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Mr. Narendrasinh Tomar congratulated the organizers of Agro Asia Exhibition and said that Gujarat has been able to lead India from the front due to the visionary steps and policies of Prime Minister Mr. Modi during his term as the Chief Minister of the state.  The projects and policies are successfully taken ahead by Chief Minister Mr. Rupani today.  The Minister appreciated the efforts of the state administration to realise the mission of doubling the income of farmers by 2022 and expressed with confidence that Gujarat will lead from the front in the agriculture and co-operative sector in India.

Mr. Tomar said that the budget for Ministry of Agriculture was Rs.1 lakh 64 thousand crores between 2014-19 compared to Rs.87 thousand crores in 2009-2014. The mission of ‘Jai Javan Jai Kisan’ as envisioned by Former Prime Minsiter Late Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee is being carried forward by Prime Minister Mr. Modi with the motto of ‘Jai Javan Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan’. The contribution of farmers will be instrumental in making India a 5 trillion dollar economy. In addition to cultivating crops, the farmers should also focus on animal husbandry, apiculture, horticulture etc. The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi provides Rs.6000 per year to farmers through DBT. The Pradhan Mantri Maan Dhan Yojana provides a pension of Rs.3000 a month to farmers between 18 to 40 who have paid a premium ranging between Rs.55 to Rs.200 a month.

Minister of Rural Development Mr. Jaydrathsinh Parmar said, “Gujarat will definitely lead the nation under Mr. Vijay Rupani in realizing the mission of doubling the income of farmers by 2022.” Prime Minister Mr. Modi started the Krishi Mahotsav in 2005 as the Chief Minister of the state. This initiative has achieved name and fame across India today.

Additional Chief Secretary of Agriculture Department Mr. Poonamchand Parmar said, “We need to increase production using drip irrigation and solar energy in order to double the income of farmers by 2022. At present, the state government provides loans to farmers at 0% interest.”

Minister of State for Agriculture Mr. Jaydrathsinh Parmar, Minister of State for Animal Husbandry Mr. Bachubhai Khabad, Minister of state for Co-operation Mr. Ishwarsinh Patel, Chairman of Amul Mr. Ramsinh Parmar, Secretary of Department of Animal Husbandry Mr. Manish Bhardwaj, M.D of Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation Mr. K.S Randhawa, Chairman of NABARD Dr. Harsh Kumar, chancellors from various agriculture universities, experts, agriculture scientists and a large number of farmers were present during the event.
