Gandhinagar, Friday: Gujarat Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel launched the statewide sixth phase of Sujalam Sufalam Jal Abhiyan from Khoraj village of Gandhinagar district.
Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel has clearly stated that, Sujalam Sufalam Jal Abhiyan is one of the prime example of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s foresight.
He said that this campaign of water storage on PPP basis with public participation and public cooperation has now become a mass movement of water revolution in the state.
Shri Bhupendra Patel added that Respecting the overwhelming response and public sentiments of this campaign, the state government has adopted the people- centric approach of continuing the campaign for more duration this year and thus keeping it for 104 days
The Chief Minister launched this campaign in the presence of Water Resources Minister Shri Kunvarji Bavaliya and State Minister Shri Mukesh Patel.
Shri Bhupendra Patel was proud of the quality and transparency of the work done in this campaign and said that These works have resulted in adequate availability of irrigation and drinking water to farmers and people.
Not only that, Excavation of soil provides large scale of daily employment , Also the resulting soil is used by farmers in their fields.Income is also generated by purchasing such soil for use in related development works. The Chief Minister congratulated all those associated with this Jal
Abhiyan of collecting and storing water which has turned out to be a successful experiment to store the rain water and raise the ground water level.
He also requested everyone to use water sparingly. The Chief Minister also advocated for a healthy and disease-free lifestyle through widespread use of grains, farm products that are produced through natural farming alongwith storing water and conserving.
Shri Bhupendra Patel further added that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has called upon everyone to construct 75 Amrit Sarovar’s in every district to boost water storage to take the nation into the Amrit era.
The Chief Minister expressed the vow that this Sujalam Sufalam Jal Abhiyan will be an inspiration for Gujarat to become a leader in the country by constructing Amrit Sarovar’s and in the field of water storage.
Water Resources Minister Shri Kunvarji Bavaliya said, Sujalam Suflam Jal Abhiyan -2023 is being launched with the mantra of water is life. Through this Sujalam-Sufalam Abhiyan , the water of Narmada has reached every areas of North Gujarat. Narmada water has reached Saurashtra through SAUNI Yojana. Pure water is reaching every villages of Kutch. State government has shown special concern for it.
The main objective of this campaign is to conserve the rainwater collected from the groundwater.
The campaign aims to inspire people to save and use water wisely public participation to realize the objective of water conservation. He said that the noble purpose of this campaign is to improve water storage capacity, create employment for workers and create awareness among people.
Under this campaign, deepening of lakes, construction of new lakes, check dam desilting works, check dam repairing and new check dam and construction of forest ponds and farm ponds have been taken up.
The Minister further said that Sujalam Sufalam Yojana has also been implemented at the national level and expressed pride that this scheme has received Scotch Award for best performance.
Shri K. A. Patel, Secretary of Water Resources Department welcomed the dignitaries and giving details he said that, This campaign was started in the entire state from the year 2018. The aim of this campaign is to raise the ground water level by maximum storage of rain surface water. Moreover, the awareness of saving water among the people has been integrated in a unique way. In the previous year 2022, 8450 works were done through this campaign. Along with this, a total of 17,811 works were taken up under 5227 MGNREGA(Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) and 4,134 works departmentally.
It is worth mentioning here that in the last five years the success of the Sujalam Sufalam Jal Abhiyan started with the inspiration of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the water storage capacity has increased by 86,196 lakh cubic feet by carrying out 74,509 works in the state.
Cleaning works of 56,778 km length canals have been carried out extensively.
On this occasion Gandhinagar MLA Smt Rita Patel, Shri Alpesh Thakor, Mansa MLA Shri JS Patel, Mayor of Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation Shri Hitesh Makwana, District Panchayat President Shri Dilip Patel, Deputy Mayor of Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation Shri Premal Singh Gol, Standing Committee Chairman Shri Jaswant Patel, District BJP President Shri Anil Patel, Municipal Commissioner Shri Sandeep Sangle, District Development Officer Ms. Surabhi Gautam and invited dignitaries and local citizens were present.
