Gandhinagar, Thursday: Gujarat Chief Minister Mr. Bhupendra Patel on the occasion of launching the ‘Curtain Raiser’ portal for registration in Khel Mahakumbh at Ahmedabad said that, Khel Mahakumbh has become a pillar for the development of sports in the state. Khel Mahakumbh has given a prominent identity to the sports policy of the state.
Mr. Patel made it clear that Khel Maha Kumbh would be held this year keeping in view the spread of Covid-19. Khel Maha Kumbh, which started decades ago in Gujarat with the slogan ‘Khele te khile’, has now become a mass sports festival.
The then Chief Minister of Gujarat and present Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi started Khel Mahakumbh in Gujarat to promote young players of Gujarat and prepare them globally. Today the infrastructure is being developed in Gujarat in such a way that international competitions like Olympics can be organized in Gujarat, added Mr. Patel.
Under the guidance of Prime Minister, Gujarat has developed such an ecosystem and culture of sports that now Sky is the limit for the players of Gujarat. Gujarat’s players are making their name at the national and international level. The mantra of ‘Ramshe Gujarat-Jeetshe Gujarat’ is now echoing in the minds of all youths.
The series of Khel Maha Kumbh is a testament to the fact that Gujarat has built an excellent human resource in all fields of sports. This is not just a sports festival but it is a very important stage in the development of Gujarat, said the Chief Minister.
The main objective of Khel Mahakumbh is to create awareness among the people towards sports, to maintain physical fitness and to develop a culture of sports. Wide participation of people has been observed in Khel Mahakumbh. The number of registrations are also increasing every year. About sixteen and a half lakh athletes had registered to participate in Khel Mahakumbh held in 2010.
Appealing to the youth-athletes of Gujarat, the Chief Minister said that the target is of 75 lakh registrations in Khel Mahakumbh to celebrate the 75 years of Independence. CM called upon the teenagers, youths, and sportspersons to participate in Khel Mahakumbh.
CM also requested to take inspiration of fitness from the freedom fighters. Organising Khel Mahakumbh would be helpful for building a healthy state.
Minister of State for Sports and Youth Culture Mr. Harsh Sanghvi said in an occasional speech that ‘Khel Maha Kumbh’ is the means of bringing out the power of youth of every village, taluka and district of the state. Khel Mahakumbh started by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi is on new dimensions today. Following ‘Khel Maha Kumbh’, the players of the state have been able to showcase their skills at the global level.
under the leadership of Chief Minister of the State Mr. Bhupendra Patel “Khel Mahakumbh” is moving ahead in a planned manner. More than 40 lakh players from across the state are expected to participate. The state government is also planning with implement Covid-19 guidelines.
The state government is going to build state-of-the-art sports centres at various places in the state at the same time, is committed to develop sports ancillary facilities keeping in view the available infrastructural facilities.
The state government has made a comprehensive plan to provide all the sports facilities to the youth of the state in the near future. Planning are being made to provide training guidance to the youth by specialist coaches for various sports.
State government is working result oriented towards completing the work of ‘Swarnim Gujarat Sports University’ in the state. In the next two months, more international class facilities are committed to make it operational by May 15, 2022.
Mr. Sanghvi also gave details of the policy being formulated for the state’s athletes to get jobs in the police department.
In his welcome address, Mr. Ashwani Kumar Secretary, Department of Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities, said that there is a positive atmosphere towards sports in the state. Gujarat, which is a citizen centric state, has become very popular due to activities like Khel Mahakumbh.
While sports are extremely useful in the foundation of healthy life in the whole world, this activity held in Gujarat will make the athletes of the state more competitive and result oriented. He requested to increase the efforts for maximum registration in this Khel Mahakumbh.

District collectors and office bearers from district level joined virtually.
