Executive Directors of World Bank meet Hon’ble CM Shri Bhupendra Patel

    Gandhinagar, 1 August 2023: Executive Directors of World Bank held a meeting with Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar.
    This delegation of the World Bank is on a three-day visit to Gujarat.

    Mr. Parameswaran Iyer, Executive Director of the World Bank and senior member of the delegation, explained the purpose of the visit to the Hon’ble CM.

    Mr. Parameswaran Iyer clearly stated that the members of this delegation were impressed as Gujarat has set a benchmark in development which has made it the Growth Engine of India.

    He said that the purpose of the visit is to familiarise the World Bank members with the milestones of India’s development journey as it holds the G20 Presidency.

    Mr. Robin Tasker, a member of the delegation, appreciated Gujarat’s holistic development through green growth, green & clean energy production, and environment-friendly development.

    Mr. Robin Tasker and Mr. Ernesto Acevedo showed interest in knowing the usefulness of the 1600 km long coastline in Gujarat and its contribution to the development of institutes like IIT.

    Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel said that Gujarat contributes 30 percent to the country’s cargo handling along this strategic coastline.

    Not only this, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, petrochemicals, and diamonds are also exported from its ports, making Gujarat the gateway to the country’s prosperity.

    Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel also said that institutes like IITs are important in providing high-end skilled manpower in the state.
    The delegation is on a visit to Gujarat after its visit to Maharashtra. Later, they will head to Uttar Pradesh.

    12 members of this delegation represent 100 countries.

    This delegation met the Hon’ble Chief Minister after a direct visit to Sabarmati Riverfront, Anand’s Amul Dairy, and before visiting GIFT City and Vidya Samiksha Kendra.

    Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel gave details on Gujarat’s financial management and stated that the state has achieved a high growth rate of more than 12% in the last decade.

    The Chief Minister stated that when COVID-19 affected the economic conditions and development of countries worldwide, Gujarat, under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has been leading with outstanding performance in various fields.

    The Chief Minister also emphasized that in Gujarat, the manufacturing, agriculture, and service sectors, which are growth engines in the country’s development, complement each other and contribute significantly to overall economic development.

    The Chief Minister also provided detailed information that five sectors have been given priority in this year’s budget to accelerate the development of the state.

    The CM stated that there is a resolve to involve the poor and the needy in the journey of development by providing social security and basic facilities.

    Apart from this, the state government’s priorities also include green growth for environment preservation and the creation of new employment opportunities by encouraging private investments in agriculture, the industrial sector, and the service sector.

    The Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to the World Bank for being a partner in various projects and reconstruction in Gujarat after the 2001 earthquake.
    The Chief Minister wished for a knowledge partnership with the World Bank.

    Chief Secretary Shri Raj Kumar, Chief Principal Secretary to CM Shri K. Kailashnathan, Additional Chief Secretary Shri Pankaj Joshi, Additional Chief Secretary of Finance Department Shri J.P. Gupta, and other senior secretaries attended the meeting.
